⭐ This month in the PLUS platform our theme is 'Fun Factor' ⭐

We’re hoping to add fun, variations, and ideas on how to get the energy back into your exercise. 💪

Exercising with a buddy isn’t just more enjoyable—it can actually help you get better results. When you train with a friend, family member, or fellow Warrior, you’re more likely to stay consistent, push a little harder, and stay motivated even on tough days.

For people living with Parkinson’s, having a workout partner adds structure, accountability, and social interaction—all of which support your emotional well-being and may help reduce feelings of isolation. A buddy can also assist with balance if needed, offer encouragement, and even join in on games or circuits to keep things light-hearted and fun.

We’d love for you to bring a buddy to next Tuesday’s LIVE lunchtime class! Coach Ana will be joined by her own exercise partner as they guide you through a fun, energising PD Warrior session together. Exercising with a friend not only makes it more enjoyable—it helps boost motivation, adds a little friendly support, and keeps you accountable.

So don’t go it alone—grab a buddy, tune in, and move together!

Great tips for managing gut health in Parkinson’s 👍

This month in PLUS we’re diving into the connection between food, digestion, movement and Parkinson’s symptoms.

Did you know constipation and poor gut motility are common in Parkinson’s and can affect how well your medication works? Constipation is a common non-motor symptom of Parkinson’s and can be made worse by medication, reduced mobility, and low fluid or fibre intake. The good news? Increasing fibre in your diet—alongside proper hydration—can support smoother digestion, more regular bowel movements, and even reduce bloating or discomfort.

🌟 Tip of the Week: Add one extra serve of vegetables and drink 1 extra glass of water each day this week.

EMPOWERING PEOPLE TO ACHIEVE THEIR GOALS

Who are we?

Positive Steps Physiotherapy is a private physiotherapy service in Dumfries and surrounding area. The business, formally known as Dumfries Physio at Home has been running for over 6 years. In 2013, both working for the NHS at the time, Erin and Katie felt there was a need for a private physiotherapy service for people with neurological conditions as well as older adults with balance and mobility problems.

Their first venture was starting classes for people with Parkinson’s in Dumfries. This began with one class of 3 people and has now grown into 4 weekly classes of varying intensities. Over the last 3 years, Erin has developed the service for one to one clients with neurological conditions. She has a wide variety of experience, through the NHS, having worked in a different hospitals and community teams. She has many years experience working with people with stroke, parkinson's disease, brain injury, multiple sclerosis and many other conditions. Katie also has a specialist interest in parkinson’s and has many years of experience working with older adults with balance and mobility problems.

Erin and Katie decided to become PD warrior instructors in 2015 after one of their own clients had experienced the programme in Brisbane. PD warrior is a high intensity exercise programme for people with Parkinson’s. It can really help manage symptoms of Parkinson’s, and evidence has indicated that it may slow down disease progression.
