You all know Rosie ❤️ She is now 9 and finding life easier day by day. It’s rather embarrassing to admit, I am also getting to know the real Rosie day by day, and it’s getting easier 🥰

Before subjecting Rosie to dyslexia testing, I took her to our local opticians who suggested coloured over lays may help Rosie with her school work.

It turns out many of Rosies daily frustrations, heighten sensitivities to noise, chaos, large spaces inside and out, bright spaces like supermarkets, gym halls, class rooms, feeling sick the majority of her days, fidgeting, becoming tired often, needing lots of down time after being busy, regular headaches, hating reading with a passion, difficulty catching balls, difficulty managing more than one instruction at a time, struggling to find her words and create concise sentences. The list goes on, these are the obvious examples. Are because Rosie has Irlens Syndrome.

Have you heard of it? I hadn’t. Turns out Rosie is part of the 12% of the population who have been identified as having it.

In a nutshell Rosie brain struggles to make sense of the visual information it receives, due to light sensitivity. It is also known as visual stress , Scorpio Sensitivity or Meares Irlen Syndrome, after the lady who discovered it. It means that Rosie has issues with reading, printed pages look like optical illusions which can take many forms like blurry, words are distorted, falling off the page, pulsating, swirling around. This results in headaches, fatigue, nausea.

The depth perception challenges for Rosie go much further. I found when we left the opticians that Rosie see’s most things as vibrating or double even triple vision. Including signs, bins, trees, you name it almost anything you see.

I can’t imagine how life has been for my darling, before we got her specially prescribed filter glasses. Life must have been so tough. For Rosie, she has had this her whole life, she didn’t know to talk about it as it was normal for her and of course, why would I have asked any questions about the things we would be looking at.

I am so grateful we have both seen the light and we can concentrate on seeing things for what they are❤️❤️❤️
