A small update… but one that should make things a lot easier.

You can now book your physiotherapy appointments online!

No back and forth, no waiting - just a simple way to find a time that works for you and get booked in.

If something’s been niggling, or you’ve been meaning to sort it but haven’t quite got round to it, this makes it that bit easier to take the first step.

As always, appointments are still built around you understanding what’s going on, giving you a clear plan, and helping you move forward with confidence.

You can book via the link in bio.

The treatment option most women are never told about

A pessary is a small medical silicone device used to support the pelvic organs and reduce symptoms of prolapse.

Simple. Practical. Often incredibly helpful.

A pessary may help with:

😳 heaviness or dragging
😳 pressure during the day
😳 leaking with exercise
😳 return to running or lifting
😳 postnatal support
😳 confidence in movement again

They come in different shapes and sizes because pelvic health is personal.

And no, one size fits all does not apply here.

For many women, the biggest reaction is:

“Why did nobody tell me this existed?”

If prolapse symptoms are affecting your life, there may be more options than you think - head to the blog to read more, book an appointment or drop me a DM - I'm here to chat.

It’s not always the symptoms… sometimes it’s fear 😳

A huge reason women delay getting support for prolapse is fear.

Fear of what it might be.
Fear of hearing the word prolapse.
Fear that their body has failed.
Fear that it means surgery.
Fear that exercise is over.

I hear it time and time again.

Often symptoms come and go in the beginning. There are good days and bad days. The week before a period may feel worse, then things settle again.

So many women hope it will disappear and put off getting it checked. But a diagnosis is not the end of the story. It is the beginning of understanding what is going on and what can help.

Prolapse does not mean your body has failed.

It means your body needs support, believe me I've been there! Head to the blog to read more, make an appointment or drop me a DM - I'm here to help!

Prolapse is not just something that happens later in life...

One of the biggest myths I hear in clinic is that prolapse only affects older women.

It doesn’t.

I see women in their 30s. I see active women. I see women who have never had children.

Yes, pregnancy and birth can be factors, but they are not the only reasons prolapse happens.

Other risk factors can include:

➡️ chronic coughing
➡️ constipation and straining
➡️ carrying excess weight
➡️ repetitive heavy lifting
➡️ poor breathing and bracing strategies
➡️ pressure management over time

If you have symptoms like heaviness, dragging, pressure or leaking, please do not dismiss them because you think you are “too young” or “not the right type of person” for prolapse.

Your symptoms are valid, and support is available. Read my latest blog post on the website for more info, and remember my inbox is always open!

Postnatal pain can feel overwhelming, especially when all you want is to feel like you again.

After her Mummy MOT and the right kind of rehab to fit her life, this mum is now back to running pain-free and enjoying Park Run with her little boy.

Steady, supported progress makes all the difference.

If you would like to discuss and arrange a MummyMOT for yourself or a new mum in your life that you feel would benefit from this kind of support you can get in touch with me view email at bennettfitphysiotherapy@gmail.com or via whatsapp on 07591097318.

After having a baby, so much attention goes to your newborn – but your body has also been through huge changes during pregnancy and birth.

A Mummy MOT is a specialist postnatal assessment designed to support your recovery after any type of delivery, including caesarean section. It looks at posture, abdominal and pelvic floor muscles, scar healing, and helps you rebuild strength with a personalised rehab plan.

Whether you’re 6 weeks postnatal, months down the line, or even years after having your baby, it’s never too late to get professional support.

Appointments are 1.5 hours, babies are very welcome, and the clinic is just outside Stenton, 10 minutes east of Dunbar.

Send me a message if you’d like to book or find out more.

After having a baby, it can feel like your body is no longer yours.

You might notice changes you weren’t expecting.
You might feel disconnected from your body.
You might wonder if what you’re experiencing is “just normal now”.

I see women every week who feel this way.

A Mummy MOT isn’t about fixing you — it’s about supporting you, listening to you, and helping you understand what your body has been through after pregnancy and birth.

You deserve care too.

If this resonates, you’re not alone.

I’ve written all about the MummyMOT over on the blog - head to my website to read all about it.

Oh my lord was this not just the last straw when it comes to pregnancy. You think you’re getting to the end of the body take over and you’re pushing on through to the end of the pregnancy marathon and WHAM! It feels like your baby has grown talons and is trying to claw their way out of your nethers! I would be waddling along quite happily when I was suddenly paralysed by the agony for what was only a couple of seconds but my goodness - f***y daggers is ACCURATE!

Well, I was always told it was the baby’s head irritating/ moving on the cervix. Ok fine but did my baby have razors on its head?!

I went on the most brilliant anatomy course last Friday at Keele University in Staffordshire. The type of anatomy course that would have been wasted on me as an undergrad because you don’t know what you don’t know at that stage. But PERFECT when you have been in the game for 23 years. No inhibitions, you want to know everything and can get specific and it’s a fantastic two way learning process between the healthcare professionals and the anatomy experts. Thank you so much and for putting this course together. I could do a lot more of these sessions.

Anyway, back to the f***y daggers. So, in the embryonic stage of our development there is a structure (let’s call it a ligament) called the Gubernaculum that guides the descent of the te**es (which start off in the upper abdomen area) into the sc***um in males, and in females, this structure develops into the suspensory and round ligaments of the ovaries and uterus. We know the round ligaments anchor the uterus to the abdominal wall but they actually carry on down and terminate in our l***a majora (which would have been our sc***um and house the te**is if we were male).

So in the 3rd trimester when our babies are packing on the pounds and in their grow phase, our uterus is expanding hugely. As it does this, the pull on the round ligaments is huge and therefore the tug/stretch/wrench in the l***a majora is felt as daggers or lightening.

? Old news ? Rubbish theory or bang on…. What do you think?

ACUPUNCTURE & DRY NEEDLING

I get asked a lot about how these two things work. So I’ve written a blog post which you can find on my website. It’s a summary of the key elements of acupuncture and its similarities and differences to dry needling.

I have been finding needling so useful in my practice for a range of patients over the last 20 years. Even in the pelvic health field.

If you are curious to find out more and how it may help you please do get in touch via my website which is linked in the bio.

🌸 “I thought getting back to running was taking care of myself. I didn’t know my body needed something different.”

14 years ago, I became a mum—and like many women, I was discharged from hospital with barely any advice on pelvic floor recovery.

By day 3 I was out walking.
By week 2, I was trying to run.
I felt heavy, unstable, in pain… but I kept going.

It wasn’t until my third pregnancy and a diagnosis of pelvic organ prolapse that I realised how little I truly knew about postnatal healing.

👉 Your recovery isn’t about “bouncing back.” It’s about rebuilding forward—with rest, breath, strength, and support.

💬 Has anyone ever told you what to expect postpartum? Let’s talk. You’re not alone.

For the full story, visit my website www.bennettfitphysiotherapy.co.uk and hit the blog button.

📌 Save this post to revisit when you need a reminder to go slow.

Rehabilitation following significant knee injury. We have been doing brilliant work in a gym capacity with this lady and getting on really well. One of the things that she says is still holding her back is her distrust of the knee and its ability to support her. Using the Metis reaction lights we can target neuromuscular re-education, coordination and reaction time. These devices provide visual cues that prompt dynamic movements, encouraging the participant to perform targeted exercises that improve proprioception and joint stability and therefore accelerating the recovery process and reducing the risk of re-injury. If you feel there is an element of your rehab from injury that’s missing, please get in touch at www.bennettfitphysiotherapy.co.uk
