SENIORS LOSE IN FORFAR 🚨
Unfortunately it was our first league defeat of the season yesterday, as we played Scot Lions Cricket Club Dundee in Forfar 🏏
Spirits were high in the bus on the way up the road, with plenty of laughs shared!
Louis won the toss and opted to bat, on what was a firm but green wicket that offered lots of movement for the bowlers.
Alex and Louis hung in for the power play, but were unable to put much scoreboard pressure on. They both fell soon after, along with Ben who had come in at 3.
Thabo and Dheraj offered a bit of much needed resistance, taking the guys from 25/3 to a much steadier 61/4, before Thabo was bowled. The star of the show with bat in hand was Blane though, who built a strong partnership with Dheraj to take the score up to a competitive point. Andrew Baird and Tom Morris also tacked on some helpful runs at the bottom before the team were all out for 140.
In response, the Scot Lions batters were attacking from the off, clearly looking to win in style. Chances came our way early on, although catching opportunities were just passing us time and time again, with the ball seeming to find every gap imaginable.
A couple of big LBW shouts were denied, which could have made the game quite interesting, early on in the second innings. Not to get heads down though, the bowlers kept pushing and eventually Blane got a breakthrough, which was soon followed by a tremendous spell from Alex, who got 2 wickets and on another day could have had plenty more. Matt also chipped in with top bowling figures, proving that all sorts can happen when you bowl at the stumps!
It wasn’t to be in the end though for D&D, as Scot Lions Captain, Tharuka, came in and made a classy 50* to guide his team home to victory.
Congratulations to Scot Lions who played some great cricket throughout and were worthy winners 👏
This weekend, it’s double header action again! The 1st XI head to lovely Largo Cricket Club in the league on Saturday, and then our Sunday team will face Comrie Cricket Club, who are visiting us at The Grazings!
