We’re proud to launch SafeConnect in partnership with Police Scotland – a new safeguarding initiative to support people with dementia who may be at risk of going missing.

The SafeConnect fob is a small, yellow device that can be carried or attached to clothing. It holds secure emergency contact details and can be scanned with a smartphone using Near Field Communication (NFC) to help quickly reunite someone with their loved ones or carers.

After a successful pilot in Argyll & Bute and West Dunbartonshire, we're now rolling out SafeConnect fobs free of charge to anyone living with dementia across Scotland.

To request a free SafeConnect set-up pack or learn more about the initiative, please visit our website - www.alzscot.org/safeconnect-request/

Tonight I was taking my little one to football lessons when an elderly lady approached myself and my friend looking for help. I recognised the signs of dementia and found out she was lost & she told me her name. Thankfully another Mum (an off duty police officer) rung her colleagues to report it while i sat with her and chatted. She was registered with the Herbert Protocol and long story short she’s now home and safe.

This system works and now I’ve seen it in action I would highly recommend that if you have someone at home who is at risk of wandering and has a form of dementia then to register them.

Details below I’ve taken from the police 👇🏻

What is The Herbert Protocol?

The Herbert Protocol is used for those who are at risk of going missing and live with dementia in care homes, with family or independently in their own homes.

How to use the protocol:
- Complete, in advance, a form recording all vital details, such as medication, mobile numbers, places previously located, a photograph etc.
- Update the form regularly with any new information.
- Keep it in a safe place for example, saved on a computer or within a care plan. In the event of a family member or friend going missing, the form can be easily sent or handed to the police to reduce the time taken in gathering this information.

I often get asked if I cover certain areas for home visits so I thought I would give you a ‘A-Z’ list 👇🏻
The picture isn’t the best but should give you an idea with the areas within the red line.

📍Bannockburn
📍Braehead
📍Bridge of Allan
📍Broomridge
📍Cambusbarron
📍Causewayhead
📍Cornton
📍Dunblane
📍Raploch
📍Riverside
📍Stirling
📍St Ninians
📍Torbrex
📍Whins of Milton

Over the years I’ve had to make the areas smaller that I cover compared to what I used to do 10+ years ago. Time, distance and working within school hours and balancing a diary around children’s school holidays has given me this boundary as a guide.

Usually the day before I plan to visit I will work out my route from leaving and finishing in Dunblane, I will also try to avoid doubling back to areas to help save on time, this may result in appointment times changing slightly and I hope you understand this (this is very rare as I’m pretty good with my routes after all this time; 14 years of doing home visits around here, plus I’m a local girl!)

I do not cover the local care homes. Usually these homes have their own podiatrist who visit residents. However, there may be the odd one off appt where families have prepaid me for ease, due to the patients mobility/health risks and if my diary allows. eg Bellfield Centre, Stirling

Back from holidays and all messages and calls have been dealt with. If I’ve missed anyone then please get back in touch. My diary is full for the days I’m working over the summer holidays!
This means I am unable to take on any new patients till at least end of August.
If you have a foot emergency, like a wound or a painful ingrown toe nail, then do get in touch to see if I can help 👣

I know it’s only the start of June but I’m a mum and a podiatrist which means I’m always planning ahead and the kids break up for their summer holidays in just over three weeks!! 🫣

Just to let you all know I am having to make some changes over the school holidays (27th June to 13th August):
• I will only be working Monday and Tuesdays.
• I will not have any new patient appointments.
• I will be on holiday wb 7th July for a week.
• I will also be off 30th July -12th August due to childcare (expect Thursday 7th August when I have prebooked appts only in).
• Priority will be given to ‘regular’ patient appointments for the remainder of August.

Thank you all for your understanding and hopefully this post will give you enough notice to get in touch if required or if you need to change any appointments then please contact asap as the diary is at max for the days I’m working 👣

Had a lovely morning doing nail surgery on a 3rd toe this morning. Yes, little nails sometimes get ingrown and need surgery too!
Happy patient at the end of the treatment and problem nail gone 👣

Now you are wondering 🤔 “how can she do nail surgery if she only does home visits?” I can still do assessments at your home and if we feel that nail surgery is the treatment plan as a curative solution, I still have links to Stirling Podiatry and can work with the owner to organise a session time at the clinic for me to perform your surgery. You are safely treated in a fabulous clinic and then dressings reviews will be done in your own home by myself.
