📋 What are the symptoms of ket bladder?
Early symptoms include:
Needing to urinate more frequently
Feeling like you need to urinate even when your bladder isn’t full
Pressure or pain behind pelvic bone
If the damage continues you may also experience:
Incontinence (urine leaking)
Blood in urine
Erectile dysfunction in men

In the short term, ketamine can have a range of negative impacts on you from the “k-hole” (a slang term for a sensation where the user experiences extreme dissociation and is unable to interact with other people or the world around them) to overdose, with symptoms including increased heartbeat, falling unconscious and seizures.
A lesser known and permanent side effect of repeated ketamine use is something informally known as “ket bladder”.
❓ What is ket bladder
When your body processes ketamine it produces metabolites which make their way to your bladder. Cells which line the bladder can then become inflamed (swollen or irritated). This inflammation can lead to further, potentially permanent damage. Some people who use ketamine need surgery to control their symptoms, but for others the damage is permanent and cannot be reversed.

Today the National Records of Scotland published its annual report on alcohol-related deaths in Scotland.

During 2024, there were 1,185 alcohol-specific deaths registered in Scotland, a decrease of 7% compared with 2023.

Behind every statistic is a person — a daughter, brother, partner, neighbour, or friend. Each with their own story and connections, each leaving a space in the lives of those who loved them. We hold in our thoughts all who experienced loss due to alcohol-related causes in 2024.

Louise Stewart, Director for Scotland, speaks on behalf of WithYou:

“While today’s report shows our treatment and harm reduction approaches are beginning to make a difference, the loss of 1,185 lives in 2024 makes it clear that much more must be done.

“To demonstrate a real commitment to reducing alcohol-specific deaths, we are calling for alcohol care and treatment standards that ensure that people who need support now have a choice of treatment, as well as access to support and harm reduction measures, wherever they are in Scotland.

“We urge the Scottish Government to implement a comprehensive alcohol strategy that properly invests in prevention and to take urgent, ambitious, and far-reaching action to prevent today’s children and young people from becoming figures in a report published 10, 20, or even 30 years from now.

“For me, that means taking a whole-population approach to addressing health inequalities and improving quality of life in our most deprived communities, where you are 4.5 times more likely to die from an alcohol related death. Only by tackling root causes and our attitudes towards alcohol can we really turn the tide to stop Scotland’s harmful relationship with alcohol.

“Today, my thoughts are with all those who we lost to an alcohol-related death, and with their families and friends.

What does ketamine feel like?
It can cause a mix of effects, including:
✨ Feeling dream-like or “floating” - some people say they feel more connected
⚡ A burst of energy or euphoria
🌀 Detachment from your body - aka a “K-hole”
😌 Calm, relaxed, or happy
😵 Confused or disoriented
🤢 Nausea
It can also:
🚫 Make it hard to move your arms/legs
🕰️ Warp your sense of time and space
👁️ Trigger hallucinations
💓 Sp*ed up your heart rate
🕒 Effects usually kick in within 15 minutes and last 30-60 minutes.
But regular use can seriously harm your health:
🚽 Permanent bladder damage (frequent, urgent need to p*e or loss of control)
😰 Ongoing anxiety, depression, panic attacks, or hallucinations
👃 Damage to your nose (if snorted)
🧠 Memory issues (short or long-term)
💧 Liver and kidney problems

Some people with undiagnosed or unsupported ADHD are turning to co***ne, not for fun, but to feel “normal.”

Co***ne increases dopamine, which can offer temporary relief from ADHD symptoms.
But it comes with serious risks:
• Compulsive redosing
• Emotional crashes
• Delayed diagnosis
• High risk of dependency

Research from King's College London, published today, has found that there were 39,232 opioid-related deaths between 2011 and 2022, more than 50% higher than previously known.

Simon Phillips, Chief Executive of WithYou, speaks on behalf of WithYou:

“Deaths following opioid use have nearly doubled in the last decade, and these figures show an alarming acceleration of this tragedy. The ONS’ statistics play an important role in influencing public health policy and funding decisions. This under-reporting will have led to treatment services not receiving the levels of funding they require, and people not getting the support they need. With deaths from other drugs also likely to be underestimated, the Government must prioritise this issue and commit to sustained, long-term funding for treatment and recovery services - people’s lives depend on it.”

ADB-Butinaca is a dangerous synthetic cannabinoid now showing up in herbal mixes, pre-rolls, and vapes.
It’s often sold as THC — but it’s far stronger and riskier.

Here’s what you need to know:
• Increased risk of overdose compared to THC
• Linked to seizures, vomiting, confusion, and hospitalisations
• Can be found in prisons, online shops, and even social supply

If you’re using:
• Stick to small amounts
• Try not to mix substances
• Avoid using alone

What looks like w**d might be something else entirely.

It’s cheap. It’s fast. It feels like nothing.
But nitrous isn’t as harmless as it looks.

Key concerns:
• Chronic use is increasing
• More people are showing signs of nerve damage
• It’s often used without any awareness of risk
• Media framing makes it harder to take seriously

Safer use advice:
• Avoid frequent or heavy use
• Opt for less risky methods: inhale from a balloon rather than directly from a canister or cream charger
• Never put a balloon or bag over your head
• Avoid sharing balloons or chargers as this can increase the risk of BBVs
• Don’t use in enclosed spaces
• Know the early signs of harm

Sometimes the “harmless” ones are the most overlooked.

Eutylone is a synthetic stimulant that’s replacing M**A in unregulated markets.

Users often don’t know they’ve taken it. But the risks are serious.

Key concerns:
• Strong initial high followed by anxiety and confusion
• Redosing can lead to days without sleep
• Associated with hospitalisations for panic and psychosis
• Often sold as M**A crystals or pressed pills

Safer use advice:
• Avoid redosing or mixing with other stims
• Stay hydrated and eat beforehand
• Sleep and calm space are crucial for recovery
• Test your substances if you can

It might look like M**A. But it’s not the same.

That mephedrone? It might be something else.
There's been a rise in people using 4-CMC, believing it’s meph or M**A. But the risks are different and can be more intense.

🧠 People report:
• Long-lasting anxiety
• No sleep for 36+ hours
• Hallucinations and confusion
• Brutal comedowns

Public Health Scotland has flagged multiple UK cases where 4-CMC was mis-sold as other drugs. If you’re using, take steps to reduce harm.

✅ Start low
✅ Avoid mixing
✅ Avoid using alone alone
✅ Plan recovery time

“Secondly, we must turn our focus to prevention. The Scottish Government needs to take ambitious and far-reaching action now to stop today’s children and young people from becoming tragic statistics in reports 10, 20 or 30 years from now.

“For me, that means taking a whole-population approach to tackling the deep-rooted health inequalities that drive harmful drug use. Only by improving the quality of life in our most deprived communities can we protect future generations and create lasting change.

“Today, my thoughts are with all those who have lost a loved one. And my advice for anyone who is worried about their drug use, or that of someone close to them, is quite simply to get in touch with WithYou.”

Zolpidem is turning up in UK conversations more and more, often not for sleep, but for surreal, unpredictable highs.

Used outside prescription, it can cause:
• Hallucinations
• Memory loss
• Sleepwalking
• Dangerous blackouts

People have driven, cooked, and fought under the influence, without remembering.
Mixing it with alcohol or benzos makes it far riskier.

Treat Ambien like the powerful drug it is.
