Are you a parent of a child with cerebral palsy? Your experiences and insights could help shape how play is used in therapy by Allied Health Professionals (AHP) and AHP support workers.

One of the members of staff in the occupational therapy teaching team, School of Health, Robert Gordon University is conducting a study on play in therapy for children with cerebral palsy in their early years. This study is part of Kirstyn's Professional Doctorate in Health Sciences which she is completing at the University of Dundee.

Kirstyn is looking for volunteer parents to take part in some discussions that will help develop tools for therapy.

DMI Therapy Level C - Only 2 qualified devoted practitioners at this level in Scotland and CK Intensives provides year round intensive courses
Yes, hourly sessions are available, but intensives get you to that next level to then continue the therapy at home with a personalised exercise program.

Can you believe the determination of this wee sweetheart?
I’m so happy to say that a recent update from Ella’s determined mum has revealed she is now confidently walking around her own house with no splints and no one behind her. Ella has always battle with her mind and confidence to let her body do what it knows how to do without fear of falling back.

Now she is on a journey of major independence for life. I’m so so proud of all the work she has done at her intensives and continued at home. 🥳🥰

Who feels like as their kids get older the system provides less and less progressive therapy and training?

Is there more focus on maintaining than progressing?

When children and bodies are changing the most training should be specific and functional to increase range of motion at hips knees and ankles, whilst building strength and balance. Speedy growing causes tightness, restricted movements and slower reactions, which can lead to more falls and regression.

I want to prevent this with a training group that supports one another and keeps the progress going in a positive environment.

Summer Camp 2025!🏕

We are delighted to announce the initial registration for Summer Camp 2025 is now OPEN!

SDS Summer Camp 2025 will take place at Badaguish Camp Site near Aviemore from Wednesday 9th July - Friday 11th July 2025. This is a residential opportunity is open to young people aged 10-17 with a physical disability, vision impairment or hearing loss as their primary disability. Campers will get to take part in a variety of different activities over the course of three days which will provide opportunities to build confidence, make new friends and have fun!

What is DMI Therapy?

Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) is a therapeutic technique used in physical and occupational therapy to treat children with motor delay by improving automatic postural responses and help each child progress towards developmental milestones (rolling, sitting, four-point, crawling, standing, walking and transitions). The goal of DMI is to provoke a specified active motor response from the child in response to defined dynamic exercises prescribed by the therapist. (This means that the therapist will present an exercise in order to provoke a specific movement or response from your child.)
