Today is International overdose awareness day. We will be spending the day honouring every life lost to overdose especially the women we’ve supported 💜

At Dundee Women’s Hub, we know addiction is often a response to trauma, in particularly gender-based violence. Women don’t only lose their lives at the hands of an abuser they also die from the knock on consequences of that abuse including addiction, isolation, and systemic neglect.

We must continue to raise awareness on overdose because lives are being lost to a crisis that is preventable. Addiction is a public health issue, not a moral failing and it requires compassionate responses. We must work to help tackle stigma, create better resources, and ensure people who use drugs are treated with dignity, care, and receive the support they deserve.

Dundee Women’s Hub exists to create safety, empowerment, and real options for women navigating these hard circumstances 💜

‼️On Sunday 7th of September 2025 at 3 pm, the UK will run a National Emergency Alert test‼️

Your phone will vibrate and blast a loud siren for about 10 seconds, even if it’s on silent. It’s designed to warn of life-threatening situations (e.g. extreme weather, floods, etc). The test ensures the system works and familiarises the public with the alert, but don’t worry it’s just a drill. We understand many women have safe phones for many different reasons, here’s how to turn off this notification-

On iPhone (iOS 14.5 and later):
1. Open Settings → Notifications.
2. Scroll to the bottom to find Government Alerts.
3. Here, you can toggle off Emergency Alerts, Public Safety Alerts, and/or Test Alerts.

On Android (Android 11+ steps may vary by device/manufacturer):
1. Go to Settings → Apps & notifications (or just Notifications / Advanced settings).
2. Tap Wireless emergency alerts (sometimes labeled Emergency alerts or Emergency broadcasts).
3. Uncheck or toggle off categories such as Severe Alerts, Extreme Alerts, AMBER Alerts, and Test Alerts—depending on your preference.

For Samsungs: Settings → Safety and emergency → Wireless emergency alerts.
