👀 What's Scrapening 👀

This week we have a big sustainable clothing event - SHOESDAY NIGHT! Help us divert brand new and preloved shoes and clothes from landfill and fundraise for social justice projects across our communities. Come along, find a bargain and support great causes. Find us in the ScrapAntics Community Hub (Level 2 in the Wellgate Shopping Centre) between 4pm-7pm.

Otherwise this week we have our weekly group sessions - Women's Wednesday and ScrapThursday. ☕️

🌟 Dundee Social Enterprise of the Year 🌟

This week we were awarded Dundee Social Enterprise of the Year at the awards!

ScrapAntics has always (and will always) be about our community and we're so excited to celebrate with everyone at our Winter Gathering on Sunday 14th December from 12pm to 3pm in our Community Hub in the Wellgate Shopping Centre. A chance to play, create and connect with folks whilst celebrating all we have achieved together this year. Free to all and all welcome.

Today we're making banners ahead of the Reclaim the Night March with , feel free to pop in anytime before 12pm.

Thursdays are our weekly open session for our community. Hot drinks, light lunch, games and crafts for all!

📣 CHRISTMAS LIGHTS ON 📣

On Sunday 16th November are switching on the Christmas Lights. To celebrate there will be music, performances & markets in the city square AND we'll be there! 🎄✨

Dundee's Play Forum are running a FREE Festive Craft Tent with local artists and you are all invited. 🎨🧶

We have been SO busy over the October holidays with our Family Club. Our Community Worker, Neil has pulled off another phenomenal programme of events with support from partners all across the city!

We had a wonderful day out to to watch some short films and create some artwork based on the stories we watched.

ran a 3 day workshop creating characters, designing comic panels and making monsters with us.

We needed the holidays with a Booknic (a picnic with books) where we read stories, shared food and crafted things to help us tell our own stories.

Thank you so much to everyone who supported our work over the October holidays. Our Family Club had an incredible time and created beautiful memories.

📅Save the date!

We’re taking part in Film Lab Palestine’s ‘Palestine Days Around the World’ in partnership with .

On Saturday 1st November, join us for a creative workshop creating kites! Get hands on designing and building your kite before adding it to our collaborative display or take it home to fly! 🪁

On 2nd November we’ll host one of over 500 screenings around the world to support the forcibly cancelled Palestine Cinema Days Festival: an act of amplification for censored Palestinian voices. 🎬

The screening will take place at ScrapAntics Community Hub in a partnership event: a programme of events in solidarity with Palestine on the weekend of the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration (1-2nd Nov), held within their community space in the Wellgate.

Short Films for Kids (aged 5 -12) will be shown on Sunday 2nd November between 1pm-3pm. 🎞️

A screening of "When I Saw You" by Anne Marie Jacir (12+) will be shown from 2:30pm. 📽️

We will be fundraising for the Sameer Project, a donations based initiative led by Palestinians in the diaspora, working to supply aid to displaced families in Gaza.

On Saturday 4th of October we were joined by to host "Explore & Discover" - a family fun day as part of 🌟

Students and researchers from the School of Life Science, School of Psychology and Social Science & School of Science and Engineering brought hands on activities to introduce their area of research to our community. 🧠🪴🪐🧫

The families who attended all had a fantastic time. Their feedback was captured beautifully by our very own Alex (ScrapAntics play worker and artist), who ran our evaluation station in the form of "Cell Portraits". Each creation a data rich reflection of an individuals experience. We're super proud of the final outcome. 🤩

Playworkers from the Scraps team ran a loose parts play session all themed around building and testing marble runs. We learned a lot about forces, engineering and materials through play! 🎾

The very kind team at provided a very tasty lunch for us too. Thank you again 🫶

🌿Meet the Team 🌿

Hello, I'm Caitlin - Resilience Worker here at ScrapAntics.

"But Caitlin, what is a resilience worker??" I here you cry. My role is centred around sourcing and re-distributing donations of all kinds throughout our community and educating people about sustainability and climate justice. You'll find me based in our Wellgate Community Hub during the week (including Scrap Thursdays!) ♻️

Aside from my sustainability role I run the ScrapAntics social media and manage some of our larger event projects (like the Hilltown Play Parade!) 🎉

Before I joined ScrapAntics I worked as a science communicator across Scotland - including during COP26 in Glasgow! 🌍

Outside of work I love vegan cooking, going to gigs and crocheting!🧶
