🌿 Week One 🌿

There’s always something so special about week one of baby massage. I love the preparation leading up to the first class, followed by meeting all the lovely Mums and babies who are joining me.

Our focus in the first week is always to cover the legs and feet strokes. These parts of a babies body adjust well to massage as they are used to being handled often with multiple nappy changes throughout the day.

The foot massage incorporates reflexology points, specifically those connected to the sinuses and stomach, helping to provide relief and aid digestion.

A leg massage not only helps to calm and relax your baby but also boosts circulatory flow whilst lengthening and strengthening those little muscles. The leg massage can also be done on older children, especially to help when suffering from growing pains.

Next week we will move on to the abdomen and look at strokes to help ease little tummy troubles.

Cross Body Movements
🌿
It’s not just all about massage here at Tiny Touch. I incorporate movement in to my weekly classes in order to boost your baby’s brain for it to learn and develop.
🌿
Did you know that we all have an imaginary midline that runs from our head to our toes? The midline divides our body in to two sides (left and right).
🌿
Bringing the limbs across the body is called ‘crossing the midline’ and it is vital in child development as it promotes the coordination and communication of both left and right hemispheres of the brain.
🌿
When babies and toddlers start crossing the midline, they are using both sides of their brain at the same time. Both sides need to work together for crawling, walking and activities using both hands.
🌿
Young babies don’t have the ability to cross the midline themselves at the moment, so playful ways like this encourage and promote early brain development. If your babies arms and legs are tight, don’t force it. Just make it a happy, playful game on the floor or on your lap 🥰

🌿 BACK MASSAGE 🌿

Who doesn’t love a back massage? Like adults, babies will also feel the benefits of relaxation, relief of tension and increase of circulation when having a back massage, but babies get the added bonus of building up their neck control and strength whilst increasing their tummy time abilities. With the perfect pillows and a chance to look at their friends and their surroundings, parents are always surprised at how long their baby ensures a back massage for, even for the little ones who aren’t always a fan of tummy time.
