Which Occupational Diseases Must Be Reported by Law? π οΈ
Under the RIDDOR 2013 (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations) in the UK, employers and occupational health professionals are legally required to report certain occupational diseases when diagnosed in a person at work.
Here's the official list of reportable occupational diseases:
πΉ Carpal Tunnel Syndrome β if the worker uses percussive or vibrating tools regularly.
πΉ Cramp in the Hand or Forearm β from prolonged repetitive movements.
πΉ Occupational Dermatitis β due to regular exposure to known skin irritants or sensitisers.
πΉ Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) β caused by vibrating power tools or equipment.
πΉ Occupational Asthma β due to repeated exposure to respiratory sensitisers e.g. paints.
πΉ Tendonitis or Tenosynovitis β in physically demanding jobs with frequent repetitive movement.
πΉ Occupational Cancers β linked to exposure to carcinogens or ionising radiation.
πΉ Infectious Diseases β caused by occupational exposure to biological agents.
π These conditions aren't just statistics β they're red flags for unsafe work environments and poor ergonomic practices.
π£ Early recognition and reporting are essential not only for legal compliance, but also for improving workplace safety, prevention, and employee wellbeing.
