Post-Triathlon Rhomboid Recovery
Last week I had a client in with a myofacial trigger point in the rhomboid area, tucked right beside the right scapula. This was a few days after he had competed in a triathlon which was giving him a pain through the shoulder up into his neck. 💆🏼♂️
This kind of tension is really common in athletes—especially swimmers and cyclists—where repetitive upper body movement and posture can overload the mid-back muscles. 🏊🚴
The rhomboids are key players in scapular movement and postural stability. When overworked, they tighten up, restrict mobility, and can cause sharp discomfort with shoulder blade movement.
With targeted deep tissue work, trigger point release, and guided stretching, we got that knot to ease off—and his range of motion improved significantly by the end of the session. 💪🏼
If you're training hard and feeling tightness in this area, don't push through the pain. A sports massage could be exactly what your body needs to reset and recover. 🧘
