15 Years as a deck officer in the merchant navy rising to chief officer serving on general cargo, bulk, heavy lift, container, oil tankers, product tankers acid carriers, chemical tankers and roll on / roll off ships; 3 years on drilling rigs as ballast / stability control operator; 12 years in oil and gas production in the North Sea up to production supervisor; 12 years as an Area Authority / Control of Work Specialist on large COMAH oil and gas processing, storage, export and pumping terminals.

Experience
1. Ships safety officer – responsible for maintenance, update and renewal of all the ships safety, lifesaving and firefighting equipment including signage and documentation. I would also chair safety meetings.
2. Ships radio officer – responsible for operation and basic maintenance of all radio equipment including emergency radios. RT and GMDSS qualified.
3. Ships Medical Officer – responsible for basic treatment of patients, record keeping, stock taking and ordering of medicines and equipment. First Aid at Sea and Ships Captain Medical trained.
4. Responsible for running of the deck crew and deck department maintenance including the management of the safe system of work. Responsible for managing of regulations such as Puwer, Loler, COSHH, manual handling, working at heights etc.
5. Authorised gas tester to level 2, confined space testing.
6. Trained in sampling, analysing, monitoring and maintenance of environmental discharges such as flare, oil in water etc.
7. Member of emergency team, trained in ship, helideck and offshore firefighting, search and rescue, first aid team member, lifeboat and liferaft operation
