With the rise of Reformer Pilates, it’s easy to think the springs and machines are where the magic happens…
But the truth? The real work begins on the mat.

Now don’t get me wrong—I LOVE Reformer Pilates šŸ¤
The springs can support the body, add resistance, and bring a whole new dynamic to your practice.

But it was never designed to replace Mat…
It was designed to complement it…..and for anyone who’s rolled out their Mat and worked through exercises, you’ll know that while they look easy, they are far from it! (Anyone else’s eyeballs sweated during a class? No? Just me then lol)

Mat Pilates strips everything back.
No assistance. No shortcuts. Just you, your body, your breath.

It teaches you to:
– truly connect to your core
– understand how your body moves
– build strength from the inside out

Because when you can control your body on the mat…

You can choose between pay as you go or a 4-class block, which is valid over 6 weeks
giving you flexibility while still building consistency over time. šŸ¤

If someone told me last year that I could hold a plank and incorporate a leg lift I would have said nope! Not happening……but here I am holding a plank with leg lift!! 😜

I have a slight…(& let’s not give this too much energy!) issue in my right shoulder…my Physio and fellow Pilates Instructor friend told me to embrace the planks. If I’m honest I used to avoid these so not to trigger the shoulder but after slow consistency and layering I’m so much better. Doesn’t mean to say I look forward to doing these, but I no longer dread.

If you are putting off attending any fitness class due to body issues please know your instructor will guide you slowly and safely to gain strength and mobility….& alongside consistency, you will see results!

Notes from the Mat — Week 6

Mindset & Self-Talk

One thing I’ve become more aware of over the years is the quiet voice that follows us through the day…..and boy does it follow!!

The one that comments on -
what we did…
what we didn’t do…
and what we think we should have done better….
Then repeat the cycle…like every day šŸ™„

For many of us, that voice can be surprisingly critical.

We can speak to ourselves in ways
we would never dream of speaking to a friend.
And yet that internal dialogue shapes far more than we realise.

It influences:
• how we show up to movement
• how we respond to tiredness
• how we navigate change
• and how much pressure we place on ourselves

Something I’m learning — slowly — is that mindset isn’t about constant positivity… coz let’s be honest…that’s exhausting!

It’s about awareness.

Noticing when the inner voice becomes harsh.
Pausing before automatically believing it.
And gently shifting the tone.

Instead of:

ā€œI should be doing more.ā€

Sometimes the kinder response is:

ā€œToday, this is enough.ā€

Because the way we speak to ourselves
either adds to our stress…or softens it.

And life is hard enough, so softness can be a very powerful form of strength.

I went to a talk on Tuesday Evening, the speaker…Fearne Cotton, her subject? being Likeable…and how we talk to ourselves and letting go of people pleasing…and it was so interesting to hear someone who looks like they have their sh*t together, actually admit they don’t…admitting her inner dialogue can be negative and always overthinking and second guessing….

My takeaway?? It’s ok to have days where you’re not on form, it’s ok to have days when you just want to relax and not feel guilty doing so, it’s ok to forgive yourself and move forward with grace and experience….& its perfectly ok to say no …so when that inner voice becomes critical it’s ok to say…shut up šŸ˜‰
