The cervical screening testing approach in Northern Ireland is more effective than ever after the introduction of primary HPV testing. Testing for HPV is a more accurate and effective way to identify women at risk of cell changes that could go on to develop into cancer if left untreated.

👶 All babies are offered a newborn blood spot test in the first week after birth. This test screens for 9 rare but serious conditions. 🩸

Most babies won't have any of these conditions but, for the few who do, the benefits of screening are enormous.

Early treatment can improve their health, and prevent severe disability or even death.

The test is your choice, but it’s recommended because it could save your baby’s life. The test doesn't carry any known risks for your baby.
