When your child struggles to use words to communicate, we use different methods. Communication is not just speech, it is pictures, gestures, signs or interaction.

Choice boards are one of the best strategies I have ever used. We used them at home by putting a range of pictures on the wall for Rhys to choose from. We did this from when he was as young as 2 years old!

Choice boards can be portable too, or via these amazing communication boards which are going up in all the parks around us.

Communication isn't just verbal. Communication can be done in so many other ways.

Don't restrict yourself.

There are no rules.

Grab a load of pictures of things your child likes - food items, activities, or TV programmes. Put them on a page and use it for them to point to tell you what they want. Your child may not be able to speak, but they can show you.

Give it a try!
