‘‘Twas the night before Christmas
By Ardenlee
‘Twas the night before Christmas, and here in Ardenlee, not a buzzer was ringing, not even Room 3.
The compression stockings were hung on the back of each chair and Myra had been in fixing everyone’s hair.
The trees were decorated, the grinch smiling ear to ear, with pictures of who we’ve loved and cared for this year.
Now, each night in the home, the tea and toast is ample, but the mince pies in the fridge are perfect for a midnight sample
The TV was off and the lights were now dimmed, there’s milk left out for the big guy, he likes semi-skimmed.
The staff do well to make sure all is good, fancy another mince pie? To say no would be rude.
The residents were nestled, all snug in their beds, when the night staff were startled by a vision in red.
They left their papers and checked all the doors, they checked every room but heard only snores.
When out in the garden there arose a great clatter, residents jumped from their air flow mattresses to see what’s the matter.
The floor sensors all buzzed, all at the same time, up 3 flights of stairs the staff had to climb.
There was no sign of trouble in any bedroom, they reassured the residents, their sleep could resume.
And then, in the lounge, a noise they know well, at the front door was Santa ringing the doorbell.
He brought the staff treats and brought gifts for us all, he sprinkled christmas magic up and down every hall.
Under the tree, he laid all the gifts out, a wonderful morning we’ll have, of that there’s no doubt!
He finished his milk and had some chocolates too, while stood in the lounge, looking out at the view.
He signed himself out and then he took flight, and as he passed by we heard
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
