What is ❓ - and ~Bute Advocacy provides a service giving people a stronger voice. Advocacy is an equal partnership between the person using the service and their advocacy worker. It involves an individual (or group) being supported to speak up by an independent, trained advocacy worker:

🔴 to make their wishes known
🔴 to understand the options open to them
🔴 to claim their human rights
🔴 to ensure that their voice is heard.

ADVOCACY matters because it…

🔴 safeguards people who are vulnerable or discriminated against.
🔴 empowers people who need a stronger voice by enabling them to express their own needs and make their own decisions.
🔴 helps people to get access to information and explore options while defending their interests.
🔴 Supports people to speak to the services that matter to them to express their views and wishes.

NHS Highland would like to extend its sincere thanks and best wishes to Elizabeth (Liz) Higgins, who retired earlier this year. Liz provided outstanding leadership and dedication throughout her time with NHS Highland, supporting nursing services across Argyll and Bute and Highland with a strong focus on delivering high-quality, person-centred care. Her contribution has had a lasting impact on teams, services, and the communities we serve.

As Associate Nurse Director, Liz played a key role in driving improvements in nursing practice, supporting workforce development, and promoting excellence across a wide range of care settings. She was widely respected for her supportive leadership style, her advocacy for nursing teams, and her commitment to continuous improvement in patient care.

We thank Liz for her many years of service and wish her every happiness and fulfilment in her retirement.

The HSCP's Joint Strategic Plan 2026-2031 has been developed and will be presented to our Integration Joint Board on 27 May. We would like to thank those members of the public, staff and our stakeholders who took part in the engagement process that helped with the development of the Plan. The full document will be published following the Board meeting; however, in the meantime, we have produced a Plan on a Page graphic which highlights some of the key information.
