Uttanasana (Standing Forward Fold) isn’t about touching your toes — it’s about spinal integrity and posterior chain activation.

❌ Avoid:
– Collapsing into the low back
– Locking the knees
– Letting the head hang with inactive feet

✅ Focus on:
– Bending knees slightly
– Lengthening the spine in two directions
– Lifting through the sit bones
– Activating the arches and grounding through all four corners of the feet
– Bringing the abdomen toward the thighs

Train the fold from the hips, not the lumbar spine. Quality alignment > depth.

🦋 BADDHA KONASANA (Butterfly Pose) — Forcing vs. Gentleness

This image highlights two completely different approaches to the same posture. One chases the “perfect shape.” The other respects the body’s present capacity.

❌ LEFT SIDE — Forcing the Pose

What’s happening:

Hunched spine

Shallow breathing

Pushing thighs down with hands

Trying to escape discomfort

Impact on the body:

Compresses lower back

Strains inner thighs (adductors)

Activates stress response

Reduces hip mobility over time

Why it’s counterproductive:
Forcing creates muscular guarding. When you push aggressively, the nervous system resists, tightening the very muscles you’re trying to release.

What’s happening:

Long, neutral spine

Deep diaphragmatic breathing

Arms resting softly on thighs

Sitting with awareness

Benefits:

Improves hip and groin flexibility

Enhances blood circulation in pelvic region

Supports posture and spinal alignment

Calms the nervous system

Encourages sustainable mobility

Key Principle:
Mobility improves through relaxation + breath, not force.

A rounded spine blocks rotation — but when you lift the heart and lengthen the spine, the twist flows safely from the center. Align first, then rotate.

All of Our Existing Classes will be running as normal
PLUS 1 Extra MYO YIN Monday Evening at 7.20pm 🙏

FYI - Strachur Afternoon Yoga 2.30pm - We are moving into Week 6

Our New Strachur 6 Week Block starts back - 11th March /Returning back to the later time 6.30 pm for the Lighter Nights .

Zoom Passes have all been sent out

When everything feels loud, yoga creates space from the inside out. Even five minutes of movement or mindful breathing can shift your whole day.

Yoga teaches pratyāhāra, the turning of attention inward.

As attention turns inward, the mind steadies.
Patañjali describes this as
yogaḥ citta vṛtti nirodhaḥ —
often translated as “the cessation of the mind’s fluctuations.”

Through practice, awareness stabilizes.
The senses soften.
Attention rests within.
Space opens, and clarity follows.

You deserve that space.
Space to breathe.
Space to be.
Space to return to yourself.
