Today we had the pleasure of attending the Festival for Older People at The Rufus Centre, Steppingley.

It was a busy and rewarding day, full of conversations with attendees, networking with visitors, and learning more about the fantastic services available across Bedfordshire.

This year’s theme — “Leave no one behind: promoting a society for all” — a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion at every age.

The event brought together older people, families, carers, and friends in a warm and welcoming environment, with so much on offer: from informative stalls and expert advice, to entertainment, spot prizes, and even the chance to win a deluxe hamper.

Thank you to Löis Aspinall MCIM for taking point on the event and to Shona Hall and Lee Pedley who popped in during the day, and a big thank you to Michael Gibbs for giving a hand with breaking down the stand at the end. 🙌

A huge thank you as well to the organisers, stallholders, and everyone who attended for making the day such a success. 👏 Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire

🌍 Today is International Day of Older Persons 🌍

At Neville Funerals, we’re proud to be an Age-friendly Employer – supporting, developing and celebrating colleagues aged 50 and over. 💜

This summer, as part of our 150th anniversary, 7 of our 15 staff award winners were over 50, showing the incredible value of experience in our team. One of them, Fleet Manager Dave Taylor, who has been with us for over 40 years, shared how ongoing training and support have helped him adapt to changes in his role. 👏

We’re also working to become a dementia-friendly organisation, making sure we continue to support colleagues and our community in meaningful ways.

⚫ Mind BLMK is hosting the 'Mental Elf 5k' on the 30th November, a unique event which focuses on bringing people together, not only to fundraise but to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing.
⚫ Keech Hospice is providing support to those who want to run on behalf of Keech a the Luton RunFest 5k, 10k or Marathon on the 12th October.

Yesterday, we hosted staff from the Keech Hospice and ran an educational morning for them, covering various areas of the funeral industry from pre-need, registration, funeral arrangements, care of the deceased, and the bereavement aftercare we offer.

Members of staff who specialise in these areas supported by giving more in-depth insight from their own personal experience within the role. They were all so supportive to those in attendance in leading informative conversations and were great at allowing them to engage in these with the questions they had live in the moment.

All those from the Keech who attended said how much they enjoyed the sessions and how interesting they all were, and how moving forward, it will support them with their day-to-day roles when speaking with the families they care for.

A massive thank you again to Lois, Emma, Lucy and James for your support, you were all amazing!

Our Hitchin branch is holding a Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning from 10 am to 11.30 am, on Friday the 3rd of October💚

We want to share some information about a special annual remembrance service that one of our four Charities of the Year is hosting this year.

Keech Hospice holds an annual "Forget Me Not" remembrance service, designed especially for families and friends to come together and celebrate the life of their child. It provides a heartfelt and collective opportunity to honour and remember someone precious.
