No one likes to hear they have an injury, especially if it means they can't play.

Last game of 2024!
Enjoy working with this team, for both the players and coaches.

This game really showed the importance and the first aiders/physios/Sports therapists supporting each other.

During the game, we attended to:
- Whiplash injury resulting in concussion
- Neck injury
- Impact to ribs
- Knee injuries

What an amazing 2 days
New and exciting information to take into practice.

Personally, my favourite talk was from - Quad ACL reconstruction update. Explaining why a quad tendon graft should be considered going forward, the evidence to support this and how to rehab and return to sport.

The talks we attended covered:
- Menopause (pelvic floor and more)
- Gait Analysis
- Sports Related Concussion
- Shoulder reconditioning
- Hypermobility
- Parkinsons
- Posture (is there a perfect posture?)
- Shoulder and Cervical Pain
- Shockwave in Sport
- Flexbeam: Near-infrared light therapy
- Chronic Lower Back Pain

Tape ❗️

Within sports different tapes are used for specific purposes. Tapes can also be used with the general public to aid in rehabilitation.

Kinesiology tape:
This tape is super stretchy, flexible, and extra sticky. Many who use this tape have found it to reduce pain, improve lymphatic drainage, and improve proprioception. However, there is limited research into the use of K tape.

Zinc Oxide:
This tape is non-strerch and rigid, these two components make it brilliant in restricting and avoiding painful movements. More commonly seen used on ankles, knees, shoulders, fingers, and wrists. It can also provide protection against dislocations, cuts, and blisters.

Elastic Adhesive Bandage:
EAB is often used alongside zinc oxide to provide more comfort and protection. Important to have in your pitch-side bag provide quick and effective protection.

It is well known that muscles allow our joints to move and create different actions.

However, did you know there a 3 different types of contractions.

When working through rehabilitation each of these contractions are used at different points.

For example, typically, isometrics are first as these are a great way of introducing stress to the joint/muscle without overloading it. Whereas eccentrics generate the greatest force of all 3 and is the last contraction worked into a rehabilitation plan.

You always hear about hitting 10,000 steps a day, but why?

Walking is an amazing and easy way to exercise with so many benefits. A few of these are:

- Weight management
- Improves sleep
- Strengthens bones and muscles
- Boosts mental health
- Relieve anxiety
- Improve cardiovascular fitness

Also, if an individual is injured it is a great way to keep active whilst rehabbing. The distance may be altered due to injury but this is something your therapist will set.
