Bringbalanceback2u Yoga for everyone
We comply with GDPR policy May 2018 My yoga journey started in the late nineties as I was working for British Airways.

I was flying around the world, but I didn't feel very grounded. I started to do a yoga class in every country I visited. After the first class I was hooked! I felt like it helped me feel grounded and balanced. I then started to do as many classes as I could, even when I wasn't flying. When 9/11 happened, my company offered unpaid leave and I decided to take my love of yoga further and look for a t

eacher training course. I qualified in 2003 and haven't looked back! My children inspired me to take my yoga journey further and I qualified in baby yoga with Birthlight and children's yoga with Calm for kids a few years later. I continue to train each year with my favourite teachers, which include Julie G and Makunda. I teach all levels and my aim is to help people with their journey. I teach with humour and a genuine desire to help people find the balance & grounding that I found in this crazy world we live in! "A photographer gets people to pose for him. A yoga instructor gets people to pose for themselves." Terri Guillemets.

We come to yoga because we love and value ourselves. Yoga helps transform us physically, mentally and spiritually and we become more connected to our body and breath.

We develop a strong relationship and come to know and love ourself for who we are. The most important relationship you can have is the one you have with yourself.

Our relationship with our body becomes a deep and loving one and we learn to listen and respond to our body's needs. We cultivate a deep sense of self love and self acceptance. If we know who we truly are, then we can connect authentically with others. Knowing yourself is true wisdom.

The heritage of yoga.

Yoga is over 5,000 years old and this spiritual, mental and physical practice, which aims to unite mind, body and soul for liberation, has been passed down through ancient texts (the yoga sutras of patanjali) and gurus (wise masters) to pupils.

It evolved into the breath control, physical poses and meditation that we see today.

Yoga is consistently evolving. Organic. Individual.

The photograph is of Maggie's homegrown heritage organic tomato plants that she will be bringing along to yoga tonight and an offering of £2 will allow you to take them away if your interested.

The dragonfly symbolises transformation, change and new beginnings. Much like Spring!

The metamorphosis of the water bug to a beautiful winged creature is likened to the journey from the emotional depths to a state of freedom and enlightenment.

Dragonflies dart and hover through the air, joyous and playful and are seen as reminders to find lightness and courage amidst the challenges.

Magical creatures that move between dimensions, that are said to represent signs from deceased relatives.

Yoga transforms your body. Breath awareness improves lung capacity, reduces anxiety and lowers stress levels, postures relieve pain and stiffness and promote stronger bones, muscles and balance and yoga supports our mental health by bringing clarity and peace.

Nature at its finest!
Ashridge Dockey woods.

Bluebells are found in ancient woodlands and one of the first flowers to bloom in Spring, using all the available sunlight before the woodland canopy closes.

Britain is home to up to 50 percent of the world's population of bluebells and they are protected, making it illegal to pick them. It takes about 5 yrs from seed to flower and they provide nectar for our butterflies and bees. An amazing example of Spring rebirth on our doorstep.

Bluebells are said to be a magical flower which represents humility, devotion and gratitude due to their bowing, bell shaped heads. They are often linked to St George because they bloom around April 23rd.

In yoga we use devotion and gratitude to set an intention for our practice, to appreciate our body as it is today, and to give ourselves time and space to listen, stay present and surrender to the outcome. Taking what we learn on the mat into our daily lives.

Body symmetry.

Like things in nature, the beautiful butterflies, flowers, leaves, birds, snowflakes, starfish etc, we as humans, are designed to be symmetrical.

Daily habits and repeated movements on our dominant side cause uneven weight distribution across our joints and muscles and stop our bodies functioning to their best.

When the body is aligned it works more efficiently and you have more energy. When the body has imbalances, it has to work harder to stay upright and avoid injury and can cause pain and fatigue.

The solution be more symmetrical!

Listen to your marvellous machine, give it attention and work closely with it.

Welcome back to yoga after the Easter holidays. I hope you all had a lovely break from routine and are feeling energised.

The clocks have changed since we last did our class so brighter days are here! We now look forward to more daylight to boost our mood, lighter nights for socialising and walks and warmer weather on our skin. The start of British Summer time.

Yoga for the transition in season from Spring to Summer, will focus on clearing stagnation and grounding, as well as balancing and energising. Poses that invigorate, are dynamic and expansive and joyful. Just like the energy of Summer.

Are you sitting comfortably?
Can you sit comfortably?

Traditionally yoga poses were done to get the body prepared to sit comfortably and meditate for many hours.

These days we spend so much time sitting in cars driving to work, sitting on chairs all day at work and using sofas instead of sitting on the floor when we get home in the evening, it's no wonder we find sitting crossed legged and kneeling a challenge. Our hips have become stiff, our core weak and our back round.

The answer to try and make this a more natural position to be in, is to try and get back on the floor more.

Use props like blocks and blankets to elevate and support the hips and make it a more comfortable place to be and this will, over time, restore hip flexibility, strengthen the core and lengthen the spine.

"You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day, unless your too busy; then you should sit for an hour!"
An old Zen saying.

And we need Meditation to gain the insight or answers we need in life, that we can't find on google!

The official start of Spring. 👏
Nature's New Year.

The garden comes back to life and the days are longer. The season of hope, a fresh start and renewal.
The awakening.

Time to Spring clean not only your home, but your personal and professional environment, your health/diet, your mind and your outlook. A purge of all the things in your life that clutter and drain.

So whether you need to detox, take a break from tech, get outside, declutter, spring clean or get moving, now is nature's way of giving you a nudge!

"Do not look for sanctuary in anyone else but your self." Buddha

Do you have a designated space at home to retreat to, or do you devote time/space to yourself in your day/week solely for you? Do you have a routine that incorporates your wellbeing? Do you do activities just for you? Or are you an afterthought?

We all need time, space and routine, to have emotional balance and prevent burnout. We can't keep being low on our priority list. Or being too busy to take care of ourself.

It is easy to lose yourself though, as so much importance is placed upon work and family and the roles we have to fulfil, but what about the most important one? The one with our Self.

A lot of people find it hard to do something for themselves regularly.
Why do we consider ourselves less important?

Surely in order to care for others, do a good job, be fully present and enjoy our days, we need to look after ourself first. Get back to who we are and what we want. Be our own Sanctuary. Prioritising ourself is essential not selfish.

This week unexpectedly i am going to the spa and having a personal yoga session. I deserve it. What do you deserve for yourself? Where will you find Sanctuary?

Yoga tonight 7pm.
