We comply with GDPR policy May 2018 My yoga journey started in the late nineties as I was working for British Airways.

I was flying around the world, but I didn't feel very grounded. I started to do a yoga class in every country I visited. After the first class I was hooked! I felt like it helped me feel grounded and balanced. I then started to do as many classes as I could, even when I wasn't flying. When 9/11 happened, my company offered unpaid leave and I decided to take my love of yoga further and look for a teacher training course. I qualified in 2003 and haven't looked back! My children inspired me to take my yoga journey further and I qualified in baby yoga with Birthlight and children's yoga with Calm for kids a few years later. I continue to train each year with my favourite teachers, which include Julie G and Makunda. I teach all levels and my aim is to help people with their journey. I teach with humour and a genuine desire to help people find the balance & grounding that I found in this crazy world we live in! The sun is setting on September and we will be in October tomorrow!

With the celebration of the Autumn equinox last week, it is officially the start of Autumn. 🍁 From this point forward the nights grow longer and the temperatures starts to drop.

We harvest our crops( I am inundated with apples, please let me know if you want some bringing to class 🍎), we start to think about layering up, heating our homes and warming food and practices, and like nature, starting to think about shedding things which we no longer need or serves us going forward.

Butterflies symbolise transformation.

The butterfly's life cycle is one of changing and evolving. From caterpillar to chrysalis to having wings and flying.

A metamorphosis often said to be like a journey of personal growth, or a spiritual awakening.
Leaving the old behind and embracing the new.

Butterfly pose in yoga is a hip opener. Seated with the soles of the feet together, gently opening the knees to stretch your hips and inner thighs/groin.

"Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible." Dalai Lama.

In order to live in a compassionate and connected world, we need to be kind to one another.

But kindness starts within!

If we are kind to ourselves, using positive self talk, gratitude and asking for help when we need it, we feel better and have more than enough kindness to spread to others. It becomes contagious and creates a ripple effect.

"Kind words, kind thoughts, kind deeds." Lao Tzu.

Kindness is a movement, a wave, a chain reaction, that can begin with one small gesture and has the potential to change society/the world. Kindness is powerful.

Kindness matters. ❤️

Alright flower?

A northumbrian greeting that roughly translated means "how are you my friend? " A geordie term of endearment.

We tend to ask each other this, with genuine interest, but do we take the time to ask ourself?
When was the last time you checked in?

Sometimes life and endless lists and full schedules and commitments, have us charging along at a frantic pace and we forget to touch base.

Setting aside some time, taking a few breaths, tuning into your body and asking, "How am I feeling? What does my body need right now?" Taking stock.

The benefits are many. Reducing stress, emotional reactivity and decreasing overwhelm and burnout, to name a few.

So, How are you flower??

Before we set sail into the summer holidays, our last class is tomorrow Tuesday 15th July.

We will be using the balls to release any tightness, resistance bands for strength and breathing and relaxation to centre ourselves.

Nearly time for our little community to disband for the summer.
2 more classes before we set sail, fly off, depart, tonight 8th July and next week 15th July. That came around fast!

We will all have different things planned and be busy, enjoying the carefree, leisurely, adventure filled, warm days of a summer, so a natural break from structure and things to do is most welcome.

We appreciate summer so much as it feels earned. Like savasana at the end of a class, after all the asana, your only job is to take a well deserved rest!

The Whipsnade Lion.

Completed in 1933, the large chalk Lion was carved into the hillside to advertise the new zoo
and as a warning to low flying pilots not to scare the animals.

In WW11 it was camouflaged to prevent it being a landmark for enemy aircraft.

It has just recently been rechalked and the zoo has several new lion cubs!

In yoga lion pose is a great stress reliever. Kneeling on your feet, hands spread on knees and simultaneously eyes looking to your third eye, tongue stuck out making a big Ha sound.
A powerful roar, releasing tension in the face, throat and jaw that promotes deep breathing, vocalisation and inner strength.

Summer solstice.
A time to embrace the light!

Saturday was the longest day of the year(not to mention the hottest!) when the sun reaches it's highest point in the sky.

It is said to be a time of great illumination and enlightenment.

A time to harness the sun's power and nourish the light within ourselves. Rising to our fullest potential.

So, time for us to shine bright and Be the Light.

We are thinking about both sides of the body this week.
We are designed to be symmetrical. We are bilateral.

What we think we become.

I would like to add to this lovely piece :-

"Watch what you do with your body, as it is always adapting to use or function. What we do with it matters. It shapes you!"

We live in an amazing machine, which needs regular care and maintenance, to help it run smoothly.

We are however so focused on the external noise, phones, computers, TV etc that we don't listen to the internal noise and we become so detached from ourselves physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

The body will communicate and try and get our attention, sending signals like pain, discomfort etc, but are we listening?

Our body is an all sensing, adaptive, protective, aware, living organism that we must pay attention to. What do you do to listen to yours?

The power of company/community.
A community circle is a small inclusive group that fosters connection and mutual support.

Humans are wired for connection.

In yoga we call it a sangha. A safe space where we come together and promote belonging, inclusivity, accessibility and social support.

A sangha supports harmony and spiritual growth through mindfulness, awareness, learning and sharing. A collective energy.
A place to stop, be present and enjoy each moment.
