A glasses fitting is so important! 🤓

This image highlights how important it is to get a glasses fitting! I love Greg Davies, nothing against the gent but the glasses, my goodness they are a lovely Gucci frame but they barely fit him. Worse yet, he appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show looking like this!

There are a few fundamentals I want to mention. Getting a glasses fitting is a way to ensure the style of frame, colour, shape, size, and overall design is something that is suited to you. It is never about the brand. Sure, some brands have some great frames but it is all about the fit of the glasses. That is something that buying glasses online can’t do.

The second element to a fitting is the fact that when you collect your glasses, they are fitting well - if the glasses aren’t sitting on your face well, then you could be looking out of the wrong part of the lens and not achieving the clarity you wanted. A fitting on collection is also an excellent way to make sure that your glasses don't look too small on you or askew, especially if you have a TV appearance coming up!

My goal is to guide you through your selection process for your glasses. Ensure that you achieve the 3 essentials:

• Comfort
• Style

I wear the same shoes every single day! 👟

Yep! Same shoes, weddings, work, funerals, gym, socially, formally, the lot! Every day the same shoes! Actually, now I think about it, I can’t remember the last time I cleaned my shoes - they smell a little so now I have started changing my socks more regularly!

That’s pretty gross, don’t you think?

Luckily it’s not true!

But people do wear the same glasses every day for a year, sometimes two or even more! Same glasses every day! Whether they are working out or at work, on holiday or at home, the same glasses are exposed to the accumulation of secretions from your face. The oils and sweat, the make-up and the moisturiser, the hair spray and the gel, the grit behind your ears that you don't clean but never admit!

Think about it! The whole year in the same glasses! It doesn’t make sense! You see, there are two factors I want you to consider, the first is about having multiple pairs that suit different aspects of your lifestyle and the second is the maintenance of your glasses!

The glasses you wear at the gym and the glasses you wear at work should be different, not least because of the sweat produced during the workout but because they should be designed to cater to your hobbies. It’s nice to have a change, having a few pairs to choose from is always nice. I am often met with the argument of well, they are quite expensive and if I pick something that is neutral I can wear it all the time. To which I rebut, the same can be said for shoes, but yet we find ourselves with formal, casual, sports and lifestyle shoes and often multiple pairs within each category!

The second point is on maintenance. At work, I have the joy of seeing my patients glasses, and often also what they had for breakfast... plastered on their lenses, or worse, the shade of foundation they use on their face as it is imprinted on the inside of the frame.

It startles me, you sit in front of me insisting on a clear lens and questioning the accuracy of the prescription yet once you have the glasses you look through a besmirched lens hoping for clarity!

So next time you are at the opticians, give the idea of a second, or third pair a thought. And whether it is one, two or more pairs that you encode on, maintain your glasses well, clean them regularly!
