B.K.S. Iyengar said a very important thing - ‘The pose begins when you want to leave it’.

We tend to loose or forget the true reason behind practicing yoga and entering different asanas/positions. Sometimes I get so obsessed with the physical ‘goal’ of the pose that I miss out on what’s most important in the practice.

Being a pretty energetic person, I always felt that Vinyasa and Ashtanga styles are the only ways for me to find challenge and peace in yoga (sweat and movement all the way).

During my time in the ashram, I realised it’s the stillness that provides the biggest challenge, both physically and mentally. I did 5-6h of mat yoga every day, but there is one class I remember the most. Traditional Hatha with maximum position holds based on our class level, between 10-20min per pose (don’t confuse with Yin yoga, as the purpose and method is very different here).

That class took me through so many highs and lows, peaceful meditation mixed with deep emotional release and a sprinkle of crazy wondering mind thinking about lamas (???). Only then I truly understood what Iyengar meant by his statement.

I think I felt more strange adrenaline after 10min of headstand than jumping out of a plane ✈️ 🧐 . It made me think about how strong of a tool our body is, when building the connection with the mind. Next step is working on 3h meditation in sirsasana, 10min at the time 😅.

And some more photos from my time in the Ashram 🙏

Beginning of new year and chapter 2025! I enjoy this moment as the time of reflection on goals that were achieved, goals that no longer feel relevant and growth of those goals and dreams that appeared suddenly as a result of recent experiences. It’s a beautiful celebration and acceptance of our nature always growing and evolving ✌️

I spent the last two months of the year finally visiting India and taking on a challenge of Advanced Yoga Teacher Training in a traditional ashram, taking a step back to the very roots of yoga. My key focus was becoming a better teacher, gaining more knowledge about the tradition and history of yoga and developing my practice. I’m so grateful that what I received was so much more. The most impactful part of my time in the ashram was building a new connection with my self. Through the environment of the traditional ashram, with many hours of silence daily, strict and challenging schedule (300h of classes) and many practices that were new to me. Couple of days off we had I used to develop my experience of sound healing with the best teacher from Mysuru.

Without too much detail, all I can say is that my personal practice and approach to yoga has transformed massively. My initial training was focused on Ashtanga and Vinyasa Yoga, and I always loved the active form of asana practice. However, the peace I found through a very traditional form of Hatha will become part of my close practice forever. It felt like taking a step back to develop my knowledge in the roots of philosophy and practice - the place where everything started.

I can’t wait to incorporate what I learned and experienced into my teachings. I’m currently still travelling around Europe to visit family, but classes on Skye will restart in February.

I’m delighted to be coming back to you with 500h of training and new energy to facilitate the space of self discovery and connection for everyone who wants to join me on the mat and share the tradition of yoga. 🧘‍♀️ ❤️ 🙏

Yoga Saturday Dunvegan Hall 11am 🙏

This class will be the final balancing of the fire 🔥element before we move on to the last element of our sequence.
As you know, yoga is so much more than just a physical practice. I am hoping for this weekend's practice to focus on one of the yamas (one of the limbs) of Yoga, known as 'ahimsa' or 'nonviolence'.

We might see it as a big idea for a yoga practice, trying to search for the world's peace in one hour... But as with all big ideas, they usually start within us.

Ahimsa doesn't just mean non-violence towards other beings. It also teaches us how to love and respect ourselves. Our bodies, our mind, our soul. Yoga allows us to start this on the mat.
While flowing through a waming, yang, fire practice - bring back ahimsa's wisdom of being kind to yourself. Listening to your body and avoiding positions/asanas that your body is not ready for. Choose for the class to be nurturing for you, rather than a place of frustration or comparison. 🙏❤️

From asana perspective, we will work on shoulder mobility in backbends, while focusing on engaging the fire energy of the core. The class is more fast paced, but plenty of alternatives for all levels of experience.

So join us in the practice of building love and respect for yourself, on and off the mat 🥰

I will see you on Saturday 🥰🙏

Full moon tonight 🌕

Thank you to everyone who joined our first fire 🔥practice in Dunvegan and Waternish.

For a few months now we have been working on balancing all nature's elements within us, and learning how beautifully interconnected the universe is (with you in the centre of it). As we were moving through the elements, you might have found some practices that resonated with you more than others. Certain elements might be more dominant for you, and at this stage you might already feel which ones they are. It might be a combination of a few, or all, or just one. The combination is as unique to each individual as your fingerprint.

Full moon has a beautiful cooling energy on the body, amongst many other balancing features. It's connected to the water element in our body, as it is with the water and tides on the planet. For all watery/creative spirits, it's a beautiful time for reflection and self care.

For all my fire'y people, who like perfection, giving 120% of the effort, always taking that extra step in yoga asanas (even if sometimes it might be a bit too much for the body...), and always on the go to achieve... Take the moment tonight. Use that cooling energy of the moon to bring your fire back to balance. Let go of the judgements, expectations of yourself and give yourself permission to just breathe.

Whatever the energy of the moon means to you, or whatever your dominant element is - take a moment to look pause, look within and breathe. 🌕🙏

You don't need any experience (or any equipment, as mats are provided!) - just the willingness to do something good for yourself 🥰🙏

Tuesdays 11am Waternish Hall (starting 13th Feb)
