My summer hols: raw-dogging around Morocco. Don’t worry, I’m not Bear Grylls, and I’m definitely talking more ADHD than STD.
Here’s the thing: ADHD meds aren’t like antidepressants. You don’t have to take them every day for them to work. Symptoms are fluid, motivation shifts, and sometimes the environment does half the job for you.
On holiday, I didn’t fancy the extra admin of sorting paperwork to carry class B drugs abroad. Sure, I could have taken them with a prescription as evidence , but honestly? I couldn’t be bothered. Free holidays are great, but I wasn’t keen on spending extra time in a Moroccan prison over my meds.
Did I collapse into chaos without them? Nope. I was up early for trips (already paid for, sun shining, novelty dopamine boost fully activated). Even the gym felt easier, apparently changing scenery counts as cardio, because somehow I managed to lift weights and my mood. I even survived a camel ride without falling off (mostly), and only minorly overordered at the hotel buffet .
Back home though? Totally different story. The admin pile isn’t sparkling with novelty. Laundry doesn’t exactly fire up my dopamine system. Raw-dogging that without meds? Absolutely not. That’s where they really earn their keep.
Right now, I’m taking my meds daily while at home. That might change post-menopause, hormones play a huge role in ADHD, and I’ll be sharing more on that in future posts.
👉 ADHD isn’t one-size-fits-all. Some people take breaks at weekends, some don’t. I do what works for me, powering through paperwork or enjoying life with the right tools in place.
