Our next walk in smear clinic will be at:
Meadowfield Surgery
Sunday 22nd March 2026
9am - 12:30pm

The clinic will be run by 2 Practice Nurses, Rebecca and Rhiannon and you will be greeted on reception by Nicola and Maddie. The clinic is available for all patients at our 5 surgery sites whose smear is due and have had their invite letter. The 5 sites include:

The Little Orange Book

The Little Orange Book is a parent friendly medical guide designed to help parents and carers of children under five understand common childhood illnesses, recognise worrying symptoms, and know when to seek help.
It includes:

• Practical advice for managing common illnesses at home
• A simple green–amber–red guidance system showing when to get help
• Information about more serious symptoms and when to contact 111 or go to hospital

It was created by Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group with input from GPs, paediatricians, pharmacists, nurses, health visitors and parents. It can be downloaded freely online as a PDF from the North East and North Cumbria NHS website, meaning any parent in the UK can access it

🚭🚭New Smoking Cessation Service 🚭🚭

My name is Julie Phillips and I am a Smoking Cessation Advisor based at Ushaw Moor, Meadowfield and Esh Winning GP surgeries.

My career background is that I have worked for the NHS as a nurse for 41 years. I will be offering a smoking cessation service to anyone who would like to quit smoking. The programme is not for cutting down ci******es, but to set a quit date and following the "not a puff" rule, so that patients have the best possible chance of quitting smoking. I am providing a 12 week programme consisting of face to face and telephone consultations, carbon monoxide monitoring, ni****ne replacement therapy and behavioural support. If you are interested in quitting smoking, please contact your GP surgery and ask to be referred to the Smoking Cessation Advisor.

This service is available for most patients over 18 who are registered with one of our 5 surgery sites within The Medical Group. There may be some exclusions however if this is the case, Julie will be able to point you in the right direction of a more appropriate service.

Staff have managed to get into the building however their is no electric, we believe this is a problem in the village. Calls will be diverted to Meadowfield, however the front shutter will not open at all so patients have no access to the surgery currently. If you have an appointment this morning this morning, please do not attend. We will be in touch with you as soon as the power is back on.

The shutter has stopped working this morning to open up the building at Esh Winning so their maybe a delay in opening up today. If needed, calls will be diverted to Meadowfield.
