World Alzheimer's Month 🌍🧠

September marks World Alzheimer's Month, an awareness event created by Alzheimer's Society. As many will already know, Alzheimer's is one of the most common forms of dementia and event is to raise awareness of it's effects on the individuals living with dementia, their loved ones, healthcare systems and our economy.

Many don't realise how common dementia is and how severe its effects can be. Dementia currently affects over 900,000 people and is the leading cause of death in the UK.

We'd like to show our appreciation to our care staff who help improve the lives of those living with Alzheimer's everyday. Together we can help make a difference.

ARE YOU OKAY? Day 💬

Today’s a reminder that a simple question can make a big difference.
Take a moment to check in with someone, whether it's a colleague, friend, service user or loved one, ask “Are you OK?” and really listen.

People often struggle to reach out on their own, but if you give them the opportunity to speak out, you can help make them feel seen and make their day a little brighter.

Are you nervous to speak out about your feelings? You're not alone. Our Mental Health Lead, Carol Jackson is available to talk to for all our staff. To contact Carol please call 07751 828989 or email carol.jackson@dalecare.co.uk.

All our staff have FREE access to our employee assistance programme, TELUS, where you can access a 24/7 live chat and phone line if you need support. To join TELUS, please email tilly.brown@dalecare.co.uk for your invitation email. We want you to feel supported.

COVID-19 Reminder for Care Staff: Let’s Keep Each Other Safe 💙

With COVID-19 cases rising again across the UK, it's important to protect ourselves, our service users and our communities. During times like these, infection control is a priority to ensure the health and well-being of us all.

🧼 Practice regular hand hygiene
🚰 Use hand sanitiser when water and soap is not available
💉 Keep up to date with vaccinations and boosters
😷 Wear masks if you or a service user deems necessary

Lets continue to protect those around us!

💙 DURHAM CARERS: Grow Confidence in Your Care Role 💙

The well-being and confidence of our care staff is incredibly important to us. Care Academy provides a range of FREE courses targeting those that already work within the Health & Social Care sector.

This service offers flexible, practical courses to those within the local community for those who are looking to upskill or possibly take the next step in their career!

While we offer our refresher training each year to our staff, if you'd like some extra training this could be beneficial for you. We want our care staff to feel supported, capable and comfortable of the proud work they do everyday.

🏡 Why Choose Care At Home Vs A Care Home in the North East? 🏡

We understand that choosing how to support you loved one can be a difficult decision. While there are benefits to both home care and moving into residential care homes, we want you to be well informed about the benefits and differences so that you can make an educated decision.

No two people are the same and therefore different care services are better fit for different people. Whether you are making this decision for yourself or on behalf of your loved one, we are here to support you along the way.

☀️ Summer Fun at Lawson House ☀️

Our Extra Care in Newcastle, Lawson House, recently held a Summer Fair and BBQ event for our service users, our care staff and loved ones. Together they enjoyed a raffle, burgers and hot dogs, karaoke and a selection of mocktails, including they're very own 'Lawson Special'! 🍹

Events like these are important as they bring people together, create heart warming memories for our residents, and boost their well-being. Thank you to our lovely care staff at Lawson House for making this possible!
