It's our first ever Sacriston Repair Cafe this Friday (27th)!

Come along to Sacriston Youth Project where there will where there will be repair, reuse and recycling points as well as plenty of freebies and handy environmental information.

We're working with County Durham Furniture Help Scheme who will have experts on hand to take a look at your broken item to see if it can be repaired. In some instances we may need to send your item away but a lot of the time a simple fix can be done there and then and for free.

General Covid messaging: With cases increasing in the county, it's never been more important to stop the spread of Covid...

General Covid messaging:

With cases increasing in the county, it's never been more important to stop the spread of Covid. Let’s be a Covid safe county, play your part by following
• hands - wash hands regularly or use sanitiser
• face - wear a mask
• space - stick to social distancing rules
• fresh air - open windows to circulate air when meeting indoors
Find out more at durham.gov.uk/coronavirus

With the government's pause on step 4 of the Covid roadmap, we need to follow the hands, face, space , fresh air guidance more than ever to help us to move into step 4 on 19 July. Play your part, visit durham.gov.uk/coronavirus to help to keep Durham a Covid safe county

Now that the government have paused step 4 of the Covid roadmap, the rule of 6 indoors and up to 30 people outdoors still applies. Remember to follow hands, face, space, fresh air if you are meeting up with people from other households. durham.gov.uk/coronavirus

If you are meeting up with friends or family, remember you can meet in groups of 6 indoors or up to 30 people outdoors. Taking a test before you meet up and following hands, face, space, fresh air can help to prevent the spread of Covid. durham.gov.uk/coronavirus

Testing/follow up PCR & if vaccinated:

Cases are increasing in County Durham, remember to do twice weekly testing and to self-isolate for 10 full days if you test positive. You must also get a follow up PCR test. Support is available if you need to self-isolate and don't have family and friends to support you. For more information on test options in County Durham, visit durham.gov.uk/CovidLFT

Remember, even if you have had both doses of the vaccine you should still test twice a week to help to prevent the spread of Covid. Having the vaccine can prevent serious illness but it does not stop you from catching, or spreading, Covid-19. Find out how to access local testing sites or order home testing kits at durham.gov.uk/CovidLFT

Whatever your rapid test result, you should report it. When you only report positive results, virus case levels look higher than they really are, so even if your test is negative or void, make sure you report it to us at gov.uk/report-covid19-result

Self-isolating:

If, when doing your twice weekly testing, you test positive for Covid you must self-isolate for 10 full days from when your symptoms first started. Find more information on the support available if you are self-isolating at durham.gov.uk/covid19help

With cases rising in County Durham, if you test positive on an LFD test you must self-isolate straight away and book a follow up PCR test. You can find information on booking a test at durham.gov.uk/covid19testandtrace

T&T payment:

If you’ve been told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace, or are caring for child who’s self-isolating, you may be able to apply for £500 from your local authority. You’ll need to be on a low income, unable to work from home, and facing financial hardship. To find out more and apply, please go to durham.gov.uk/testandtracepayment

Another good news story from Employability Durham
Michael, from Sacriston, has been a client of North Durham Assist since June and registered on the programme amid the COVID-19 lockdown. Michael has struggled with his health but felt he needed to get back into employment and was referred for support from his local JCP for confidence building and possible training.
Michael was a mechanic and had worked for the same company for over 30 years. He had a wealth of work experience in this area but was interested in warehouse or factory work and wanted to know what training was available locally that could support him into these roles.
Through regular telephone interventions with his adviser, Alison, action plans were put in place to support Michael to progress. He completed training online including asbestos awareness, manual handling and warehousing and also passed his CSCS card to enable him to work on site.
Last month as restrictions were being lifted, Michael completed and passed a 5-day forklift truck and counterbalanced course. Support was provided to fund training. Michael has now secured employment as a forklift truck driver.
Michael says – “If Alison hadn’t helped me seek and fund my training, I wouldn’t have had a chance at the interview. I really cannot thank her enough for all the help - she’s been fantastic throughout.
