This balm has been formulated to nourish and protect even the most driest of lips.

I spent 3 days infusing cold pressed jojoba oil with vanilla seeds and their pods. This was gently done in my double boiler. The house has been full of the beautiful vanilla scent!

This jojoba oil has then been gently warmed in the double boiler with candelilla wax and babassu oil. Candelilla wax has been used instead of beeswax making this a complete vegan product.

Babassu oil is similar to coconut oil in consistency and colour, however I feel it is more easily absorbed into the skin.

This balm contains no additives, colourants or perfumes. It contains the natural and subtle smell of vanilla.

Each balm is priced at £10.00

We have returned from a much needed and wonderful trip away to Rhodes in Greece 🇬🇷

Some absolutely beautiful landscapes explored, calm seas swam in and stunning local foods eaten.

Plenty of yin yoga devoured along the way too 🙏

It's that fabulous time of year again in my garden!!! 👌

The lilac (Syringa vulgaris) is blooming and the first batch has been harvested, prepped and has started it's infusion journey.

To me there's something magical, light and entrancing about the scent of lilac. The fact that its presence is short makes it even the more special.

A bit about the lilac infused oil (being applied topically not internal use).

🌸 Astringent (causing contraction of skin cells). It helps to tighten the skin, improve elasticity and brighten dull complexions

🌸 Antibacterial - improve acne symptoms, reduce wound infection

🌸 Antifungal - Athlete's foot, ringworm

The scent of the infused oil is not as powerful as the flowers, however, the healing properties are captured during the infusion process.

Blossoms are being infused in 75% sunflower oil and 25% apricot kernal oil

🌻 Sunflower oil (Helianthus annus) is great for all skin types. Excellent emollient and very soothing

🥭 Apricot kernel oil (Prunus armeniaca) is also great for all skin types. It protects the skin from free radicals and reduces inflammation. Great to support wound healing (and reduce risk of infection due to antibacterial properties in the lilac 🌸) and promotes skin barrier homeostasis.

Vitamin E oil shall be added to help preserve. Item to be kept in the fridge and will keep for up to 2 months.

Beautiful, informative and grounding morning spent on a herb walk with the brilliant Jeremy from The Green Man, Herbal Apothecary yesterday 💚

Jeremy is such a wise and experienced soul 🙏 We learnt so much about the herbs we see growing all over our land! Can't wait to rustle up some yummy concoctions.

Jeremy has a lovely little apothecary in Upton upon Severn and I highly recommend a visit. You are guaranteed to take some new knowledge back with you.

One plan for my home birth.... To utilise what planet earth offers to ensure a smooth and timely natural labour.

I was successful in growing Salvia Sclarea (Clary Sage) from seed during my pregnancy in 2021. My goal was to grow enough crop to harvest, dry out and make tea.

This tea I drank throughout my whole labour (not during my pregnancy - this herb and oil is contraindicated during pregnancy).

My labour was smooth, uncomplicated and carried out at our home unmedicated.

My labour was also tough, gruelling and painful. There was vomit, roaring and at times some serious self doubt as to whether I would be able to bring our baby earthside.

Thankfully my active labour was very minimal and we had the birth we dreamed of.

Now to share the Clary sage science....

Clary sage is reported to increase salivary oxytocin concentrations. Oxytocin is the wonderful hormone that stimulates a uterus to contract and helps to improve the progress of labour (often referred to as the love hormone). Oxytocin plays many roles in our lives but for the purpose of this post I am relating it to pregnancy.

As well as drinking through lots and lots of this herb steeped as a tea during my labour I also had an oil blend containing clary sage rubbed into my lower back.

My whole labour time was less than 14 hours with my active labour being 4 hours.

For my first birth I didn't expect things to happen in such a smooth and timely manner. I feel the herb both as a strong tea and an oil blend worked powerfully for me and my baby that night 🙏.

More Salvea being grown and this experience has pushed me to start experimenting with homegrowing more medicinal herbs organically.

These salt scrubs have been absolutely wonderful to make 😋

It has been so rewarding to interact with medicinal plant material. I have been greatly missing the foreign sea swims and cleansing of my skin and have found a salt scrub application twice a week to have a really profound effect on my skin and wellbeing.
