Awesome great support

I'm a little bit speechless this morning!!

I was contacted on Friday by Fietsen Tempo CC who offered some money to help with the costs involved getting the Prissick Spring Classics and North East Crit League up and running.

Yesterday, I received a £300 donation from Fiestsen Tempo Cycling Club and their generocity literally stopped me in my tracks.

The whole NECL thing has been a roller coaster of emotions and at times, I've wondered why put myself through it. But the support I've received, either comments, post shares or private messages have motivated me to keep going and in just 2 short weeks Adult Crit racing returns to Middlesbrough cycle circuit with Prissick Spring Classic #1.

There are now 27 riders signed up but still time to get your name on the start sheet. As is the case with most events, we need more women riders...... so please share in your cycling groups, cafe ride groups, etc and lets get more ladies to the start line.

Attached is an A4 format flyer for pinning to any noticeboard. The QR code takes you straight to the race entry page on BC website.

Huge thanks again to Fiesten Tempo CC and to everyone who is supporting this crazy idea of mine.....

This is my conversation with people all the time. If you train hard the drink alcohol you are less likely to recover and then when you try a push the next session you have more chance of failure and pain due to this hindered recovery. If you want the results reduce the drink it’s simple.

Drinking alcohol after training affects more than just your sleep or hydration it directly interferes with the body’s ability to repair muscles ⚠️

Research indicates that alcohol significantly lowers muscle protein synthesis after resistance exercise, even when protein intake is adequate. This slowdown in muscle repair can last up to two days, limiting both recovery and muscle growth.

For those who feel their progress is stalling despite consistent training, alcohol consumption may be an overlooked factor holding them back from optimal results.

Why does injury occur?
There are many reasons for injury. It can be due to spiking loads. Going from low stress to high stress too many times without recovery.

Recovery happens through healthy environments e.g. eating good food and hydration. Reasonable levels of activity. A reduction or stopping alcohol or smoking. Improving your sleep and reducing stress.

Practice a good healthy environment and be consistent in loads. Try not to spike your loads. There is no need to push hard all the time. Recovery time is just as important as building time.

Get a good healthy life style. Work on relaxation and mobility on recovery days but still remain active with a nice long walk or swim.

If you are stuck with injury and need to start moving forwards then get an appointment booked let’s get you hitting your goals.

Interesting research what we think actually improves our experience. It’s not the cost of the expensive gait analysis and matched trainer it’s the thoughts and perception of the athlete.

Interesting new study on running shoe selection…. 👟

Fife et al. (2025) recruited 21 female runners and asked them to compare their own shoes to two other pairs.

One pair which was ‘gait matched’ to suit the runner’s foot shape and running style. The other pair was described as ‘basic’ and not specifically suited to the runner.

But here’s the twist... both of these pairs were actually the same running shoe! The only difference was the colour.

The researchers even went through the process of analysing gait and foot shape to support the illusion that the ‘gait matched’ shoe was specific to their needs. In reality, the shoes were the same but the runner’s perception of these shoes was altered.

As a result runners rated the ‘gait matched’ shoes as more comfortable and better for performance and reducing injury risk despite the shoes being the same with no significant differences in running gait.

TAKE AWAY: A runner’s perception of a shoe can change comfort. Be mindful of this when recommending footwear.

We always speak about consistency and the need for regular input. This info suggests that 10mins a day for 2 months will start to have a good impact on lengthening muscles. It’s not always important to stretch prior to all exercise sometimes warm up with dynamic functional exercise helps especially when running as joints aren’t moving in full ranges of motion. It is definitely important to maintain full ranges of movement in any joint for maintaining health of the joint.

It’s really important that we hydrate and eat well to help the body function well.

Here is some guidelines and help if you are presenting with B12 symptoms. It’s not always about the levels in your blood. If someone says your levels are normal question what is your level. Below 300 and having symptoms then this is something that needs supplementation.
