This quote reminds us that the 'good life' is not about achieving a perfect state of being. Instead, it's about moving in a direction that feels right for us, one that aligns with our deepest values and desires. It's about having the psychological freedom to explore, to change, and to grow.
In counselling, we strive to create a space where this freedom exists - where individuals can explore their paths without judgment, where they can learn to understand and trust their inner selves, and where they can courageously move towards their own unique direction in life.
Let's celebrate counselling as a journey, not just a destination, and honor the process of growing, learning, and evolving every day.
"It seems to me that the good life is not any fixed state. It is not, in my estimation, a state of virtue, or contentment, or nirvana, or happiness. It is not a condition in which the individual is adjusted, fulfilled, or actualized….The good life is a process, not a state of being…It is a direction, not a destination. The direction…is that which is selected by the total organism, when there is psychological freedom to move in any direction"
