Impromptu Christmas Calm Post:
A couple of days ago I opened all the windows and then smudged the house by burning some lovely (ethically sourced) Palo Santo. As I did it I used a very beautiful smudging feather one of my yogis very kindly made for me (much to the entertainment of Rhubarb and Custard- a Kite feather! A bell! Some moving smoke! Cat Joy!)
Many of you know that it has been a challenging few months for me - and the idea of releasing the fear, worry and stress that had resided in the house and welcoming in something new felt very symbolic and positive.
Anyway; here is the festive aside!
I am currently reading a lovely wintery book "Winter Magic" by Sara Haydon, it is full of gorgeousness. In it she recommends smudging with a cinnamon stick at this time of year!
"cinnamon...offers powerful purification properties...beneficial for manifesting success...and fostering mental clarity"
Plus, who doesn't love the smell of cinnamon!?
So if you feel as though you could do with shaking out the old and welcoming in something new - perhaps simply moving along some of the stress and hecticness of the festive season and replacing it with more calm and peace, then grab yourself a cinnamon stick and a bowl and some matches. If you are lucky enough to have been gifted or own a feather or similar to smudge with grab that too, and as you burn the cinnamon stick waft the smoke around the room.
Don't like smoke? Though the smoke does not linger if you have respiratory things going on you might prefer to avoid it - it is one of the reasons we never use smoke in the Yoga Hut.** So instead try diffusing essential oils (Frankincense is a good one for this time of year), or a Himalayan salt lamp, or if you have a singing bowl playing that in each room for a moment or two can help shift out the old and make space for the new.
With love,
Emma xx
