Your brain is constantly on a quest to validate your internal narrative. This means that if your self-talk leans towards negativity, your mind will actively seek out evidence to confirm these negative beliefs. This phenomenon is known as confirmation bias, where we unconsciously look for signals and signs that uphold our pre-existing thoughts and beliefs. It's essential to recognize this tendency because it can shape our perception of reality in a manner that might not be accurate or beneficial.

Right now, if you can, take a moment to pause and breathe deeply. As you slowly exhale, focus on identifying one aspect of your current situation that is okay. It might be something as simple as the warmth of the sun on your skin, the comforting aroma of your favorite tea, or the quiet hum of life around you. Repeat this process two more times until you have identified three things that are okay in your life at this moment. These could be minor details or significant aspects, but each holds importance in shifting your mindset.

When you encounter challenging times or feel weighed down by stress and negativity, recall these three positive elements. This practice can help counterbalance negative thoughts and provide a grounding effect, offering a mental refuge and encouraging a more balanced perspective. Research shows that cultivating gratitude through exercises like this can enhance overall well-being, increase resilience, and even improve mental health. So, when life's difficulties arise, remember your three good things, and you might just find yourself smiling.

Some practical things that might be useful when you're considering an appointment with me.

Is the clinic easy to find? Simply Osteo is tucked behind the parade of shops opposite The Ship Inn. I send a What3Words address to all new clients to help them find the address, which is ///cook.rocket.craft. This will bring you directly outside the door of the clinic.

Is there parking? Yes, there is 2 hours of free parking in Waitrose's carpark a two minute walk away. Or pay and display in Queensway carpark next to Iceland, or on the street opposite the clinic.

Is there toilet facilities? Yes, there is a toilet for client use in the clinic, very near to my room.

Are there any stairs? There are three small steps into the clinic itself (see photo) and all the therapy rooms are on the ground floor.

Will I have to undress? No, you stay fully clothed during a CST session, just your shoes are required to be removed.

Will I have to lie down? Not if you don't want to. Your comfort is paramount during a CST session, so however you wish to be will be accommodated.

Will I be warm/ cool enough? I have fluffy blankets and a heated underblanket on the couch, which can be on or off. There is also a radiator, fan heater and cooling fan in the room, so the temperature can easily be adjusted to keep you comfortable.

Will I feel better after every session? Generally, most clients feel more relaxed and in tune at the end of the session, but, occasionally you may feel different for a short period of time as your body adjusts to the changes. I advise clients that change is good, and sometimes symptoms worsen before they resolve.

Our breathing is connected to our nervous system, so when we get worried or nervous we tend to hold our breath.

Breathe through your nose, with the focus on a long out breath. The nose has filters. It warms and humidifies air, preventing dryness in the airways and lungs. Allow the air to come in naturally like sniffing a rose, allowing your ribs to move upwards in your back. We breathe with the whole of our backs - often we are so front orientated with completing tasks in front of us that we forget about our backs and the importance of allowing our ribs to move.

Learning breathing techniques can have a positive impact on your health. They can help to reduce your blood pressure, improve relaxation, prevent insomnia and improve your attention. And the good news is that they can be done anywhere at any time.

This is a lovely quote that really hit home for me recently, as I was convalescing after a hip replacement. I had to remind myself to slow down and look back at how far I had come on my healing journey (and still have a way to go!) and to be kind to myself.

I'm back in clinic! After nearly 7 weeks off recuperating after hip replacement surgery, I am sufficiently healed to return to work. It has been a very interesting journey, in which I have been able to notice and track my body's amazing healing abilities. My strength and mobility will continue to improve for the next 6 weeks and up to a year. And I won't set off the sensors in airports as the prosthetic is made of ceramic! How amazing is that?
