What were you doing in 1969?
In 1969, Eddy Anderson was laying the foundations for something truly life-changing.
A deputy head teacher at a special school, as well as a remedial gymnast and physiotherapist, Eddy began developing techniques using a trampoline to provide therapeutic exercise and recreation for children with disabilities. He called it Rebound Therapy.
After three years of development and trials within his school, he felt ready to share it more widely. So, he opened the very first Rebound Therapy club—held on Saturdays at his school.
This moment marked the true beginning of Rebound Therapy.
Since then, over five decades of innovation and dedication have followed.
In 1979, Eddy introduced a structured training course in partnership with the Cleveland Education Authority, and became a training course tutor within schools. He later expanded by delivering training for the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the BTF ( now British Gymnastics.)
In 2006, Eddy joined forces with disability sports coaches Paul Kaye and Shirley Kaye. Paul was also a teacher, and Shirley an international trampoline performer. Together, they further developed the organisation now known as ReboundTherapy.org
Today, with their amazing, dedicated team of tutors and office staff, ( www.reboundtherapy.org/team ) Rebound Therapy continues to evolve—offering life-enhancing benefits for children and adults with a wide range of needs.
From one small Saturday club, Rebound Therapy has grown into a worldwide movement. It is now one of the most popular activities in the UK for children with disabilities, and the ReboundTherapy.org practitioner training course is accredited in over 100 countries.
The Rebound Therapy practitioner training course is also recognised as part of the 3-step pathway to becoming a mainstream trampoline coach.
