Friday Cuppa with Lesley
May is a month of renewal — longer days, warmer air, and nature in full bloom. It is the perfect time to align your practice with the energy of growth, balance, and fresh beginnings.
It is a good time to -
🌿 – Practice outdoors if you can. Let the sun energize you.
💗 – Incorporate backbends like Camel Pose or Bridge Pose.
🌱 – Balance the vibrant energy of spring with grounding postures like Tree Pose or Warrior II.
I have chosen camel pose for this month.
Camel Pose (Ustrasana) is a kneeling backbend that opens the chest, stretches the front body, and strengthens the spine and supporting muscles.
1. Begin kneeling on your mat with knees hip-width apart and thighs perpendicular to the floor. Keep the tops of your feet flat or tuck your toes if needed for comfort.
2. Place your hands on your lower back or sacrum with fingers pointing downward, supporting your spine.
3. Inhale, lift your chest, roll your shoulders back, and lengthen your spine. Exhale, push your hips forward and gently arch your back from the waist.
4. If comfortable, reach your hands to your heels, keeping arms straight and tilt your head back carefully, avoiding neck strain.
5. Hold the pose for 3-6 breaths, then release by bringing hands back to sacrum and slowly rising, letting the head be the last to come upright.
