Brilliant article on reversing muscle loss in your 40s - and we do the 4 exercises mentioned in Pilates!

Push ups, squats, deadlifts and rows πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

Weight training in your 40s isn’t just about building muscle; it’s about protecting your bones and staying independent for decades to come.

These are the exercises to prioritise if you’re new to strength training in your 40s, according to a PT.

The pelvic floor doesnt work in isolation, so why train it that way?

The pelvic floor is part of a pressurised system, a 'canister' if you like, where the diaphragm is at the top and pelvic floor is at the bottom.

For effective long-term function and to manage pressure whilst doing activities like coughing, jumping or hiking , the pelvic floor must be able to move in co-ordination with the diaphragm.

Exercises, like we do in pilates for example the bridge and bird-dog, are often more effective than traditional isolated kegals because they require the pelvic floor to contract and relax dynamically alongside major muscle groups and the deep core muscles.

Leaks, urgency and constant bathroom trips are a common reality after birth β€” especially when pelvic floor exercises fall to the bottom of the list. And let’s be honest, in those early weeks the focus is on the baby and simply getting through each day and night.

After giving birth, Anniki Sommerville experienced all of it, from a vaginal tear to suddenly needing to p*e right now.
