Here at Eastbourne Gardens Care Home - Avery Collection we took a moment to think about everything we are grateful for 🙏🏻

There was so many beautiful comments & thoughts from staff, residents & families 🥰🤗

National Shuffleboard Day is September 17th
A day to recognise the history & enjoyment of the table shuffleboard, a game with roots in Tudor England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Activity Team member Jason created a shuffleboard and researched the rules & games history.
He then took the game throughout the community so everyone could have a go 😃

The memories shared today were just incredible.
Many of our staff & residents remembered playing this game as a child & some remembered watching their own parents play the game many years ago.

Resident Adrian remembered his father also making a Shove Halfpenny board with such loving memories.

Today we put our residents & staff to the test playing ‘Kim’s Game’ throughout the community.

Kim’s Game is a game or exercise played by Scouts, the military, and other groups, in which a selection of objects must be memorised 🧐🧠

The game develops a persons capacity to observe & remember details 🧐🧠
The name is derived from Rudyard Kipling’s 1901 novel Kim, in which the protagonist plays the game during his training as a spy.

It was a fun & interesting exercise.

The Times newspaper launched the puzzle in 2004 & it soon became a recurring feature in newspapers across the world 🌍
