International Day of Friendship is celebrated on 30th July 🥰

Residents at Eastbourne Gardens Care Home - Avery Collection enjoyed making friendship bracelets & friendship stones with the children from summer school camp

One of the children made resident Ida a bracelet which she now has attached to her walking stick 🥰

It was also a day for residents Mo & Linda to remember a former resident Barbara.
Barbara stayed at Eastbourne Gardens for a couple of months & a great friendship was made between them.
She returned to live in France, but sent them both a heartfelt postcard telling them how much she missed them & would love to keep in touch 🥰

We took two lovely ladies to the local theatre to see
Joseph & The Technicolour Dreamcoat performed by local theatre company The Rattonians 🎭

It was a show full of of colour, energy & all the songs we know & love 🌈🎶

Pat said ‘those youngsters & costumes were fantastic’

This month we decided to visit France.

In July France celebrates ‘Bastille Day’
Which is celebrated annually on 14th July 🇫🇷
This afternoon we tested our knowledge with a themed quiz, trivia & special edition Avery Daily which had a French language lesson to learn some French words & phrases 🇫🇷🥖

We also enjoyed a French themed social of wine, cheese & bread while sharing memories of travelling to France

Eastbourne Gardens Care Home - Avery Collection got together with a group of children from The Summer Holiday Club for a fun filled Generational Sports Day
🏅⚽️🎳🎾
Residents, staff & children took part in various games & exercises & looked back at old photographs of traditional races & games, including the traditional Egg & Spoon Race 🥚🥄

The children played Bowls, one of our residents favourite games & resident Sylvia very kindly gave us all a demonstration.

We started the morning with an Oomph session with Minnie Mouse followed by Batman leading the Conga dance 🕺🏼

After a picnic lunch together there was an opportunity to do some crafting 🎨

Everyone received a medal & certificate for their participation 🏅

This wonderful event promoted mutual understanding, community spirit & lots of shared enjoyment across generations 🥰

Lizzie took her first Oomph class this morning 😃
It was a great success.

Oomph! wellness is a social enterprise on a mission to help older adults live a full life. The sessions aim to improve the physical, mental & emotional wellbeing 🥰

Mo said “I throughly enjoyed it”
Tony & Jim both said they really enjoyed the mix of the movements & memory games in between.

Lizzie said “I kept the class fun & upbeat, everyone seemed to be having a good time”

We took a gentle cruise around Sovereign Harbour where John used to live ⚓️🚤⛵️🛥️🚢⛴️

John was the first wheelchair user on this tour & everything was just perfect.
