Healthwatch East Sussex

Healthwatch East Sussex Your health and social care champion – we make sure decision makers hear your voice and use your feedback to improve care.

Healthwatch is the consumer champion for both health and social care. It exists in two distinct forms – local Healthwatch, at local level, and Healthwatch England, at national level. Healthwatch East Sussex enables people to share their views and concerns about their local health and social care services and understand that their contribution will help build a picture of where services are doing well and where they can be improved
We are also able to alert Healthwatch England to concerns about specific care providers. In addition to this, Healthwatch East Sussex also provides people with information about their choices and what to do when things go wrong; this includes either signposting people to the relevant provider, or itself providing, support to individuals who want to complain about NHS services

Healthwatch East Sussex will provide, or signpost people to, information about local health and care services and how to access them, as well as provide authoritative, evidence-based feedback to organisations responsible for commissioning or delivering local health and social care services

Today is Stroke Prevention Day, and we're joining Stroke Association in encouraging people to check their blood pressure to help stop stroke before it happens!

High blood pressure - or hypertension - is the biggest risk factor for stroke, causing around half of all cases.

Anyone aged 40 or over, who lives in England, and who does not already have a diagnosis of high blood pressure, can take advantage of a free blood pressure check available in community pharmacies:

We continue to experience sustained operational pressures in both of our emergency departments, especially at Eastbourne.

Thank you for everyone's support in helping us deal with the recent increased pressures. Please continue to help us by:

- Only attending our Emergency Departments for life‑threatening illness or injury
- Using NHS 111 (by phone or at 111.nhs.uk) for urgent health advice
- Contacting their GP, local pharmacy or visiting an urgent treatment centre for non‑emergency care
- Calling 999 in a life‑threatening emergency

This helps ensure that our hospitals can care for those who need them most. Thank you once again for your continued support.
