Today's funeral featured Joe Brown singing I'll See You in my Dreams. Evocative, sung so well, as good now as when it was written 98 years ago. Beautiful.

Took a funeral yesterday where the lady had been a lollipop lady. We had a great piece of music called 'Lollipop' by the Chordettes (1950s harmony group), and she had received an award from Sir Paul (now Lord) Condon, then Met. Police Commissioner. Such a shame I just could not find his direct contact details to ask him for a message to the family - he has a page, but it is not used. But the family appreciated, it's great to try that extra effort.

Pleased to be helping a lovely family this coming Monday at quite short notice. Have worked out the order of service, the content, the life story, will run through it again with them on Monday morning, just to be sure. An honour

This is my 44th year in the funeral profession, all my years of experience to give you guidance. Old school service.

I am arranging the funeral of a very independent lady. I just couldn't find an appropriate poem, so wrote this just for her. Here is it, hope you enjoy. Harry

You, and You, and You, by Harry Pope
I was always the independent one
Strong, steadfast, and true
The reason for my strength
Was you, and you, and you

I always knew what to say
As if on autocue
Because my motivation
Was you, and you, and you

When you looked towards me
For guidance in what to do
I made it all up as I went along
For you, and you, and you

When you were all younger
My how the time just flew
But I wouldn’t give up any of it
For you, and you and you

Mistakes, maybe some, that you noticed
Okay, more than just a few
But they were made with love
For you, and you, and you

As now I leave on my journey
Who knows for pastures new
Remember, I did it all,
For you, and you, and you

Have been recommended to help a poorly gentleman who wants to set his affairs straight. It is taking 4/5 visits to get them right, so his service is exactly as he wishes. No charge, it's my honour to help so he has peace of mind.

Milton Keynes crematorium have rightly been criticised for being insensitive. Fortunately, locally our caring chapels have seats placed in such a way that families can comfort each other without complication. As a retired funeral director and local celebrant, I am able to assist families so the service is conducted with professionalism, sensitivity, and is exactly as they wish it to be - a loving tribute. As a professional funeral celebrant, I see the family, take lots of notes, then turn it into a service that is given approval. Care and concern are devoted into turning the service as a loving tribute and celebration of a life. The most moving words said to me after a funeral were by his wife. 'Harry, that was the best funeral I have ever attended.' I could not have asked for anything more.

What does a celebrant do?

They take the traditional role of the person officiating at a funeral, personalising everything to meet the individual requirements. The solemnity of the funeral is the same, it’s just that the celebrant gets to know the family, gets to know what they would like said. The order of service is discussed in detail, so on the day the words are said in the most loving, moving way. The celebrant is there to include what is required, so if a prayer is chosen, or a Hymn, then they are included. If these are not to family’s choice, then the content is secular.

The service reflects it is a time of celebration of a life.
