Happy New Year!

Why aren't you getting the performance results you want? Unable to build muscle adequately, reduce body fat, or develop sport specific speed. Often training information is inaccurate, conflicting and confusing. Making it hard to apply information to achieve desired goals. For example, 1, high volume repetition protocols may not be optional to build muscle. 2, excessive and extensive calorific deficits are not optimal for loosing body fat/maintain muscle mass. 3, most power training guidance online is sub-optimal to develop sport specific speed (eg., swinging a kettlebell doesn't cut it, box jumps/plyo’s will only provide short-term marginal gains).

What is Sports and Musculoskeletal Podiatry?

Sports and Musculoskeletal Podiatry focuses on the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions of the foot and ankle. These include acute injuries like ankle sprains, biomechanical assessments and rehabilitation plans , to help you get back to your activities, whether is walking, running, teams sports, etc.

Sports & Musculoskeletal Podiatrists undergone specialised treatment to develop their skills in area.

In addition to rehabilitation and treatment, at Sussex Movement Clinic we provide our patients with information and advice ( e.g. footwear advice, stretches & exercises, etc) and promote self-care to reduce injury recurrence.

How are you recovering from anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACL)? ACL injuries require well-planned long-term (9-12mths+) exercise rehabilitation to get back to your sport. The ACLs role is to prevent forward shifting of the tibia (lower leg) and rotation of the femur (upper leg), thus stabilising the knee. Physiotherapy management involves loading the targeted tissues appropriately in a progressive fashion to ensure they adapt correctly to do their job. Challenges arise when determining the right exercises, intensity, dose, and adjusting to the biological response to exercise loading (eg., swelling, pain, stiffness). Adopting a biological systems approach to management is key, by way of a tailored periodised strength and conditioning program, integrating multiple factors concurrently into the process. Our team can help you with this complex task and get you back to your chosen sport.

Are you a performing artist (dancer, musician, circus performer, yoga etc.,) did you know injuries can’t be prevented?
Here’s the added extra that comes with our services. General prehabilitation does not help much, optimal strategies revolve around a systems-based approach to mitigate and reduce the risk of an injury occurring.

Are you hampered by an overuse injury, affecting your training and/or performance. Does it keep coming back? Can you manage or recover from your flare-ups? Load management, targeted task-based exercise programs, with education are key interventions to manage injury. However, to address this, periodised approaches are necessary integrating training principles, by building tolerance and capacity of injured tissues to meet the demands of your modality. This is non-negotiable and critical to success.

Your musculoskeletal system requires high levels of specific strength through range, mobility, and co-ordination, with individualised load management. Is this your experiences of physiotherapy?
