Wearing pink for Organ Donation Awareness Week 🩷

Today we are wearing pink at St Wilfrid’s Hospice, as part of Organ Donation Week, led by NHS Organ Donation.

Here at the hospice we often have conversations with patients about their wishes, and organ donation can sometimes be a part of that. In fact, we have been privileged to have facilitated a number of eye donations, which we know make a real difference to people with impaired vision. Between October 2023 and September 2024, 20 St Wilfrid’s patients donated eyes.

This week is all about encouraging gentle conversations, with ourselves, our families, and our communities, about the incredible gift of organ donation.

By making your decision known and talking to loved ones, you can help bring hope to those waiting for a transplant.

For more information about starting a conversation or making your wishes known visit: https://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/get-involved/organ-donation-campaigns/organ-donation-week/

Are you aware that around 300,000 tonnes of clothing waste ends up in household black bins every year?

Rather than throwing your clothes in the bin, why not donate them to one of our shops? One person’s junk is another’s treasure!

As our Open Gardens season comes to a close, we gathered together at our drinks reception to celebrate the success of another wonderful year. It was the perfect chance to thank everyone who helped make this season so special. 🌸

🌿 To every supporter who visited
🌿 To our amazing volunteers who gave their time
🌿 To our generous garden owners who opened their beautiful spaces

Together, you helped us raise an incredible £60,959 to support the vital work of St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

We’d also like to give special thanks to:

- Stardust, Melodie and Hi-Thyme for filling the gardens with music
- Westways Vending for equipment loan and coffee supplies
- Everyone who donated plants, books and tombola prizes
- Caroline, one of our annual pass holders, whose social media shares helped boost visitors and awareness

Thank you for making this season such a blooming success! 💐

Leaving a gift in your will can make a real difference to patients and their families.

Patricia and her husband chose to leave a percentage of their estate to the hospice in recognition of the support their family had received from hospices. This resulted in us receiving nearly £3,000 – enough to support another family for five days. We are incredibly grateful to her and her family for this gift.

Leaving a gift in your will is easy. Small gifts, large gifts and every size in between will make a big difference to patients needing end-of-life care and their families.
