The Lights of Love trees are up!

It’s always a special moment when the Lights of Love trees go up, and this year is no exception.

We have already started hanging your personalised stars on the tree in The Street Café at the hospice, and the names dedicated online on the tree in the garden.

If you would like to see the stars, please feel free to visit any day between 8am and 5pm.

And if you would like to dedicate a star – online or in person you can find out how at stwhospice.org/dedicate

Lights of love is kindly sponsored by Eastbourne Gardens Care Home - Avery Collection who have covered the cost of creating this event so that more of the money raised can go to local hospice care.

A big thank you to Phil and Kate Jones for raising more than £4,000 for the hospice.

After signing up for our recent Sahara Trek, Phil suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm which meant it was no longer possible for him to undertake the challenge.

Once he was on the mend and feeling a bit stronger, Phil was determined to do something meaningful to honour the money that had already been raised, so he and Kate walked 6km from the Grand Hotel on Eastbourne seafront to the hospice in Broadwater Way.

What an incredible achievement. Well done, Phil!

It’s Christmas Fair week at St Wilfrid’s Hospice! 🎄

The festive fun is nearly here, and we can’t wait to welcome you to our very first Christmas Fair!

Join us on Saturday 29th November, 11am–4pm at the hospice, for a heart-warming day of joy, crafts, treats, and plenty of Christmas magic for the whole family. ✨

A few things to keep in mind:

- Parking at the hospice will be limited, but plenty is available nearby, including the Summerdown School car park — thank you to the school for providing this.
- We’ll be taking card payments, but bringing some cash is helpful and supports our lovely stallholders.
- Our Street Café will offer a smaller, takeaway-only menu on the day — no hot lunches, but lots of tasty treats available.

There are still a few spaces left for the Father Christmas experience. To book, email kayleigh.tippett@stwhospice.org or call 01323 434224.

The time after losing someone close can feel isolating and lonely for children and young people.

Talking about loss isn’t always easy, but sharing stories and memories can help bring connection, comfort, and hope.

As comes to an end, we’re encouraging everyone to continue to share their stories about bereavement. Whether it’s through writing, drawing, or simply talking, every story helps strengthen understanding and reminds young people that they are not alone.

Here are some visual resources to help get you started. These templates and prompts can be used at home, in school, or in support groups to open conversations about grief in a gentle and creative way.

Together, we can help young people feel seen, supported, and connected 💛

Have you seen our Memory Stars? These personalised decorations can be hung at home, or gifted to someone else and are a special way to remember a loved one this Christmas.

Stars are available in gold or silver colours, and each one is engraved with your dedication (up to 35 characters, including spaces). They are presented in a lovely St Wilfrid’s branded box.

The suggested donation for each star is £15. Every donation provides vital funds to help more people receive hospice care this Christmas. At a time when our costs are higher than our income, your support is more important than ever. Thank you.

There is limited availability for these stars, so we recommend ordering early to avoid disappointment.

Meet Hugo and Amy as they share some of their favourite memories of Hugo’s dad, Stephen, who died in January this year.

They talk about the moments that mean the most, from everyday laughter to the little things that now remind them of him and how those memories continue to bring connection and comfort.

Hugo and Amy also share what’s helped them along the way, and how support from The Seahorse Project has made a difference in their journey.

A big thank you to Amy and Hugo for sharing their story as part of and for reminding us that talking about the people we miss the most, helps us to continue to strengthen hope for the future.
