These days, we have only one dedicated veteran volunteer doing her best to keep on top of the garden, but sometimes it really does take a full team to get the hard work done.

This past week, we were grateful to welcome a team from the charity , who came along to lend a hand. Their mission is to improve veterans’ mental health through horticulture, and they brought both energy and care to the task.

It was a real pleasure to have them here at Chaseley. Their time and effort made a visible difference, and we’re very thankful for their support. We’re already looking forward to seeing them again soon.

They’ll have an information and plant stall at our Summer Fete on 4th July—do come and say hello if you’re there.

Smiles, laughter, and connection filled every corner of Chaseley on Circus Day ❤️🎪

Residents enjoyed close-up interactions with our clowns, sharing jokes, games, music, and plenty of laughter. For many, these moments brought out big smiles and beautiful reactions that lit up the room.

Our wellbeing team worked incredibly hard to ensure everyone felt included, supported, and part of the fun.

Moments like these show the power of simple joy. 💛🤡

The excitement was building as something truly magical arrived at Chaseley… 🎪✨
Last week, Chaseley was transformed as colourful clowns burst through our doors, setting the tone for an unforgettable day filled with circus energy.

Our wellbeing team metamorphosed into very silly clowns, a fabulous tiger (who thought he was real!) came to visit, one of our brilliant volunteers performed a dressage display featuring her favourite hobby horse, and a team of circus performers joined us for the day. We enjoyed games, shows, songs, and even crystal ball readings. Stay tuned for photos of all the fun.

We do a lot of clowning around here, but this took fun to the next level! 💛🤡

We are so grateful to a thoughtful and generous lady who, every year, gives Chaseley a gift certificate for a local nursery.

Thanks to her kindness, we were able to bring back a lovely collection of bright, colourful flowers — along with a few bags of slightly fragrant compost 🌱 — to fill the pots that brighten up our terrace.

Residents and volunteers will be busy planting, and the space is already looking more cheerful.

Thank you for this annual gift of beautiful joy. It means a great deal to everyone here.

**First swim for our little ducklings! 🦆**

They splashed, paddled and bobbed about happily in the water. It didn’t take them long to figure out exactly what to do.

So let us introduce the stars of the show:
**Chip** (yellow), **Darcy** (black & white), **Sophie** (brown), **Butterscotch** (beige-brown) and **Jeff** (small beige).

Of course, every group has a **troublemaker**, and one little duck decided peaceful swimming was far too boring and caused plenty of chaos for the others!

Residents and staff gathered round to watch the hilarious show. There was lots of laughter as the ducklings made the most of their big adventure.

Sun! We are loving this incredible sunshine. ☀️

There’s just one small problem… our beloved CasBar is currently under repair after water started coming through behind the bar. Sadly, leaks are one of the many challenges that come with a 138-year-old seafront building.

While the work is being sorted, everyone has been gathering in our bright sun lounge, enjoying the warmth and the view.

Of course, we would all love to sit in the garden all day. The trouble is shade. We need to keep residents safe from the sun, but being right on the seafront means it can get very windy. Standard garden umbrellas simply don’t survive here — one good gust and they end up in the fish pond!

So we’re asking our community for ideas.

If you know a company or supplier that can provide a strong, secure (affordable) outdoor shade solution that can withstand seaside winds, please send us a PM. We would love to hear from you.

Easter has brought a wonderful surprise! 🐣

Last week we shared a photo of a couple of tiny chicks and a tray of eggs. Well… the story has grown a bit since then!

We now have five fluffy Easter chicks, and they have been the stars of the show. Residents and staff have loved spending time watching them peep, wobble about, and explore their little world.

They won’t be staying forever though. Soon they’ll head back to enjoy life on the farm. Until then, we’re making the most of every moment with our tiny Easter visitors.

Thank you to our Easter heroes – Victoria Butchers! 🐣

This weekend we had promised our residents a proper Easter treat: a roast lamb lunch with all the trimmings. But just as the chef and kitchen team began getting everything ready, they realised something had gone very wrong… the lamb hadn’t been delivered!

With hungry residents waiting, one of our team members ran – literally – down the seafront to Victoria Butchers, hoping they might be able to help. The team at the shop quickly stepped in, found 8 pounds of lamb, and prepared it exactly the way our chef needed so the meal could go ahead.

Cheers to a fantastic local butcher just down the road. 🥂

A couple of our residents had the great pleasure of going out recently.

One enjoyed Queen by Candlelight, while another headed to the pub for a classic fish and chips.

These outings matter. They give residents the chance to be part of the community and keep enjoying the things they loved before coming to Chaseley.

Trips like these come with costs: transport, a support staff member, and the activity itself. If you’d like to help make more of these days out possible, please consider making a donation.

You can also support us by joining our fundraising events:
Summer Fete – 4 July

Send us a PM if you’d like more information.

Happy Easter from everyone at Chaseley. 🐣

We’ve had a lovely weekend enjoying plenty of treats, but the highlight was watching these adorable little chicks hatch.

We get to keep them for a few more days before they head back to the farm they came from, where they’ll roam around and meet their parents and the rest of the flock.
