Every day is Mother’s Day when you’re a therapist who has a special interest in perinatal mental health.

From pregnancy to birth trauma to relationship issues to body image to postpartum depression and anxiety to loss of identity to re-examining past trauma through the new lens of motherhood - I support clients to work through it all.

The holidays can bring up a lot for us.
• Family dynamics
• Financial pressures
• Feeling overwhelmed with the kids off school
• Anxiety for the year ahead
• Missing the distraction of work
• Dreading the return to work…

Going into the new year, instead of ‘new year, new me’ or short lived resolutions, I wonder what you might choose to add into your life if you looked in the mirror and saw your best friend or your child - what would you want for them this year?

Joy | Tenderness | Adventure | Peace | Love

I want that for you.

Wishing you all a very happy new year x

Sometimes, all of a sudden, we find ourselves at a tipping point. A place of overwhelm when everything is spilling over and you have no resources left to cope with the day, let alone anything bigger you might be facing.

Begin an intentional practice of checking in with yourself, asking ‘how am I feeling today?’, ‘how full is my stress bucket’. When you do this you will start to identify the warning signs and the triggers that tell you you’re reaching your limit.

With greater awareness comes the ability to choose to implement things to fill your cup and empty your bucket, whether it’s time with friends, journalling, meditation, etc. Whatever helps you destress, do it even in the calm moments to build your resilience over time.

I’m often struck by how much we keep to ourselves, how much we hold in, repress. We’re afraid of being ‘too much’. We don’t want to burden anyone or feel like we’re whinging. We don’t have the tools we need to let it out safely. We don’t know where to go to release everything pent up inside us.

In therapy with me, of course we can talk, but you can also nap, you can scream, you can cry, you can shout, you can lie on the floor, you can be silent, you can draw. However you want to get it out, whatever you need, it’s ok with me.
