*Eastleigh Sports Massage is now closed, due to retirement*
After 18 years working as Eastleigh Sports Massage, I have taken the decision to retire. My last working day was Friday 27th June 2025.

This has been a very hard decision, taken with great sadness, as I have loved treating everyone who has visited my clinic. You have all been a great part of my life. I would like to thank you for your loyalty and commitment to treatment. I also would like to thank you for choosing Eastleigh Massage Therapy.

I wish you all the very best.
With kindest regards
Katherine

After five years of sharing these Friday Stretches with you, I can't believe this will be the last... 😢
The first was 5th June 2020 when we were all recovering from that first lockdown. 250(-ish) stretches later, and how the world has changed!

So, let's go out with a lovely, gentle, relaxing stretch to ease you into your weekend.

The standing or sitting prayer stretch:
1. Start by standing with your feet hip distance apart, facing forwards, or by sitting.
2. Gently bend your arms, placing your arms and hands in a prayer position. 3. Hold your hands together whist you turn your upper body to one side, as far as is comfortable.
4. Hold this position for 5 to 10 seconds then repeat to the opposite side, still with hands together
5. Repeat each side 10 times.
Namaste... 🙏

This is taken from my brilliant whole body workout sheet, a collection of some of the most useful stretches from all our other workout sheets, designed to be either whole body stretch session or a whole body workout (depending on how much of them you want to do!). You can find it here:

All of our workout sheets are available here; you are welcome to save any of them for use after my website (eventually) closes:

Well, can't believe it's come around so quickly but this is now my last working week: I retire on Friday (27th June) and Eastleigh Sports Massage will close.

It's been a difficult decision as I've loved treating everyone who has visited my clinic. You have all been a great part of my life. I would like to thank you for your loyalty and commitment to treatment.

Thank you for choosing Eastleigh Massage Therapy.

It's time for our penultimate Friday Stretch! (Yes, Katherine is retiring at the end of June so there is only one more of these to go... 😪 Better make the most of this one!!)

Many of us hold a lot of tension in our neck (and trapezius muscle in our neck and shoulders), or just get achy from too much sitting at a desk. Our Neck workout sheet has lots of great stretches to help and this is one of them:

The Looking Up at the Ceiling and to One Side Stretch - here's how to do it:
1. Start by sitting or standing facing forward.
2. Make sure your shoulders are relaxed, slightly back and down.
3. Gently roll your head back to look upwards towards the ceiling, then roll your head to one side, so your ear moves towards your shoulder.
4. Hold this position at the furthest comfortable stretch for 10 to 15 seconds.
5. Release, then repeat 5 to 10 times each side.

You might find that you can't turn very far at first but keep doing it and - gently - try to extend your reach each time.

You can find our full workout sheet for the neck here:

Royal Ascot starts tomorrow! Even if you're not especially a fan of horse-racing, there is something for everyone. 🏇

We've touched before on the incredible discipline and fitness of the jockeys, the beauty of the horses and - for fashion fans - the wonderful outfits. (Ladies Day on Thursday is usually a highlight 👀 ) It's very likely there will be a Royal presence most days, too, if you like to see them 👑

Lovely photo of last year's Royal arrivals from the Ascot Racecourse website.

Whatever you call yours, hope your Dad is enjoying his Father's Day 🥰

It can be a tough job, one that never comes with a job description or a user manual. But most Dad's make a decent job by being guided by love... and for that, we thank you all 😍

This week's Friday Stretch also doubles up as a strengthening move.
It's a classic so can't believe we've not shared it before in five years of Friday Stretches (our first Friday Stretch was 5th June 2020 - we've kept this up for five years! 😁)

Use whatever you have to hand for weights; bottles of water, full tins, anything you can comfortably grip!

Bicep curls;
1. Place two weights, one each side of you.
2. Start by standing, feet hip distance apart and your knees slightly bent.
3. Pick up a weight in each hand and bend your elbows.
4. Keeping your elbows tucked into your body, bring your hands up towards your shoulders.
5. Lower your hands again, level with your elbows.
6. Repeat the movement, to lift your hands to your shoulders 10
times.

We've taken this from our 'Core and Strength' sheet, which is a fantastic set of moves designed to be a whole body workout. Great if you can't get to the gym or you're away on holiday. Do download it here:

Happy Friday! Time for a Friday Stretch?
We think so!

This week, they are a big muscle group and this is another of our favourite stretches. A quad stretch that doesn't require any balancing skills, although it does need somewhere you are comfortable to lie down!

The lying face down quad stretch:
1. Start by lying on your stomach.
2. Bend one knee behind you, bringing your foot up towards your bottom.
3. Take hold of this ankle and gently pull it further in.
4. Hold the stretch for 5 to 10 seconds.
5. Release your leg and lower it back to the floor.
6. Repeat the exercise 5 to 10 times with each leg.

Great stretch!
If your thighs need further work, find our quads sheet here:

Or stretch other muscles by browsing through our workout sheets:

(By the way, hoping to leave my website up and running for a few months after I retire so you'll have time to save your favourite stretches from these workout sheets - but don't leave it too long!)

OK, so it's getting really close now - only 18 working days until I retire!
(My last day will be Friday 27th June, if you want to see if there's time for a final appointment before I go!)

It's been a difficult decision as I've loved treating everyone who has visited my clinic. You have all been a great part of my life. I would like to thank you for your loyalty and commitment to treatment.

Thank you for choosing Eastleigh Massage Therapy.

Time for your last Friday Stretch this May - and only five more to go until I retire!

Working through some of our favourites, this is great for your Achilles' and lower legs:

The standing, foot in front cross over shin stretch:
(You may find it helpful to do this exercise near a chair or wall to help balance.)
1. Stand by standing upright, feet hip distance apart and arms by your sides.
2. Step your uninjured foot (if applicable) forward and place it in front of your other foot, so that your feet are in line and your toes all facing forwards.
3. Slowly bend your back knee so you feel a stretch in the Achilles tendon and your ankle.
4. Hold this stretch for 5 to 10 seconds.
5. Return to an upright position and repeat the stretch 5 times on each leg.

Find this stretch and more for your shins, ankles and feet here:

Friday Stretch time! As we go into this Bank Holiday weekend, we're counting down some of our favourite stretches as I work towards retirement....

This week, having worked your lower back last week, one for hamstrings that you might feel from you gluteals to your ankle! 'Hamstrings' are tendons at the back of the thigh which attach your thigh muscle but the term is also often used for refer to the 3 large muscles in the back of your thigh. This move will stretch them all!

The lying, straight leg to ceiling hampering stretch:
1. Start by lying on your back on the floor, on a mat if you wish.
2. Lift one leg off the floor.
3. Keeping the leg straight and your heel towards the ceiling, take hold of it with both
hands and gently start to pull it towards your chest.
4. You should feel a deep stretch into your hamstring and buttocks; hold this position for 5 to 10 seconds.
5. Release your leg and lower it back to the floor.
6. Repeat the stretch 5 times with each leg.

Note; if you find it too challenging to keep your leg straight, you can bend your knee and still achieve a good stretch. Just work on straightening your leg as you loosen up!

We have a whole workout sheet dedicated to your hamstrings, which you can find here:

I'm really not counting (honestly!) but I think there are now less than 30 working days until I retire...

This has been a very hard decision after 18 years as Eastleigh Sports Massage. My last day will be Friday 27th June, if you want to squeeze in a final appointment before I go!

I have loved treating everyone who has visited my clinic. You have all been a great part of my life. I would like to thank you for your loyalty and commitment to treatment. I also would like to thank you for choosing Eastleigh Massage Therapy.
