I am working my way through this podcast from the very beginning and finding it hugely valuable both personally and professionally. Had to share this episode because KC does a beautiful job of explaining what emotional regulation is and isn't, and also of destigmatising coping mechanisms - as with care tasks, she deems them all to be morally neutral, which is a massive step forward in our self-compassion. It's good to know that there are some small steps of progress happening to try and improve the family court process.

Most of the folk who came to my presentation (at the UK hypnosis convention, earlier this month) looked pretty shocked by the experiences my clients have had trying to navigate the system regarding child contact with their abusive ex partner.

Sadly it's not just the NHS and mental health services that are dangerously under-resourced right now... the whole system is buckling and it's not fit for purpose.

I'm looking into setting up a peer support group for therapists who are working with these kinds of cases - drop me a line if you're interested in finding out more.

After decades of calls for greater scrutiny, journalists are to be allowed to report on proceedings.

This is so, so true for me... and of course, doing this job, I am learning all the time about the amazing stuff our brains get up to while we're sleeping - processing the day, filing memories, solving problems, and the rest... that's why "sleeping on it" can be so magical and things really do feel different in the morning. It's also why hypnotherapy works even if you fall asleep while listening, because your subconscious mind stays awake and takes it all on board.

Sleep deprivation is genuinely used as a form of torture because it has such an impact on everything... if your sleep is a problem, why not give hypnosis a try? I'm always happy to answer questions, of course - or you can invest a tenner in your long term wellbeing and try my sleep recording here:

This is a great article about imposter syndrome, which is something I work on a LOT with clients (and indeed have struggled with myself at times) - nice clear definition given as well:

"a sense of anxiety and inability to feel validated internally, despite all the objective, outward signs of achievement and success. To the outsider, it looks like you’re smashing it, but internally, you feel fearful, inadequate, and even fraudulent."
