If this hit a little too close to home, you’re not alone. So many of my clients were praised for being “good” “easy” or “independent” when they were actually overwhelmed and unsupported.Therapy can be the place where you stop managing everything, and start letting someone hold space for you.You don’t have to keep proving how strong you are.

Do you know someone who has been having a hard time? Do you want to tell a friend or family member that they matter or send a message of support?

I would love to help you do this with a special box of personalised fudge from an amazing small business

All you have to do is nominate someone by tagging them below, with a brief reason why you would love them to receive some fudge.
I will cover the cost of the fudge box and Victoria has kindly offered to cover the postage so it can sent directly to the winner.

So all you need to do is getting tagging below, it’s as simple as that, and I will pick a winner on the 8th September.

I’m a trained Rainbow Baby Specialist. I can support you in navigating the emotional ups and downs with your rainbow pregnancy. 🌈

The term Rainbow Baby is often used to describe a pregnancy that has happened after the loss of a baby. A rainbow is used to signify the joy and happiness a new baby can bring after a very difficult time, and some bereaved parents find this a very helpful image 🌈

It’s important to understand that not all bereaved parents are comfortable with the term “Rainbow Baby” for lots of different reasons.

The phrase may imply that a new baby replaces the baby that was lost, which is never true.

It may imply that the arrival of a Rainbow baby is the solution to your grief, when it is not. The grief of losing a baby doesn’t go away after you welcome a new baby.

It may also imply that your much-loved baby who has died is being compared to “rain” or a “storm”, and many bereaved parents don’t want to think about their baby in that way.

It may suggest that the Rainbow baby’s identity is defined by their older sibling and their relationship with that sibling. Parents may feel that referring to a Rainbow baby is not loving or celebrating each of their children for who they are, unique in their own right.

Some parents may also feel uncomfortable that the term Rainbow baby marks out one child as different, especially if they have older children who were born before their baby who died.

As always at Sands, we suggest mirroring the words and language used by your friend or loved one or checking with them if they are comfortable using certain words or phrases. This might feel uncomfortable at first but shows an openness to listen and learn about their experience 💜🧡

5 things people get wrong about therapy. Don’t forget to save for later!

1. - Therapy isn’t just for people with depression or who are feeling sad, it can be but it is also for people who want to talk about things to prevent them from becoming overwhelming. Sometimes it’s to look at coping mechanisms but therapy is really about self awareness because once you understand yourself better, change happens.

2. Of course the past may play an important part in your therapy story but ultimately we are focusing on how you’re feeling now and we are always looking forwards to the future you want to have.

3. As your Therapist, I will never force you to talk about anything you aren’t ready to talk about. Therapy can only work if trust is built and it’s crucial to work safely and at your pace.

4. There is a lot of fear around bringing up the past making you feel worse. The truth is, if painful, difficult things have happened, the feelings around them don’t just go away. Talking about them makes them smaller and whilst it may be confronting and difficult, will ultimately help to lift the load.

5. When you are struggling with life it can be hard to believe that talking will make any difference. The truth is, you aren’t alone, your Therapist is there to listen but to reflect back, to validate and to help you explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences.
Therapists will also offer psychoeducation which is to help you understand your patterns, cycles and behaviours.

Therapy isn’t always about huge break throughs, it’s the small changes that can make all the difference. I’m an inner child therapist and one of the first changes that clients will often notice is feeling more connected to themselves. Once this shift happens then the next part of the work is about exploring what that self connection is showing them.Is this a shift you would like for yourself, if the answer is yeas then please do feel free to reach out for some therapy with me.

Now let’s be clear, if taking your children on trips out every day, works for you, then you do you. This is not a post suggesting there is anything wrong with that. It’s actually a post about pressure. If you’re over there feeling pressured to provide regular days out, and entertainment for your children during holidays and you’re feeling overwhelmed, over stretched and financially depleted then this is for you. Your children DO NOT NEED YOU TO ENTERTAIN THEM EVERY MOMENT. It’s ok for them to get bored, that’s why they use their imaginations and learn to just be. It’s ok for them to play with their toys and just enjoy freedom at home or in the garden. It’s ok for them (and you) to have some down time, some rest and time without expectation. It’s ok for days out to be trips to the park, gardens, forest, country park, it doesn’t have to be different or extravagant. It’s ok for you to book them into holiday clubs, child minders etc. it’s ok if you need to work. It’s ok for you to take them to run errands, get things done etc. Please don’t let what social media shows you or your friends are doing add pressure. Remember we only see the highlight reel of others. Rest, imaginative play, creative time, quality togetherness, memory making, home based activities and general life admin are all absolutely fine. Make school holidays work for you!

E needed to understand why they kept playing out patterns that weren’t serving them and why those patterns had formed. The work was then to identify the fear, help to reframe it and see they could still be safe outside of those cycles.

E was noticing changes and so were their friends and family. They were feeling more in touch with their wants and needs and as result stopped feeling so exhausted, overwhelmed and burnt out.

Do you want to be more like E?

As a Therapist who works alot with anxiety, it’s really important to me that I understand your experience of anxiety. Once start letting your anxiety in and listening to it, instead of pushing it away, that’s when we really hear what it has to say.

When we take time to listen to anxiety, that’s when we begin to understand what it is trying to tell us. Then we have something to really work with!

To be clear,
🧠 I’m not against positive thinking but we can’t “think” anxiety away.
🚶🏾‍♀️ Walking is great for our health all around but it doesn’t help you get to the root of anxiety and induce change.
🗣️ Your anxiety is unique to you and it’s important to take time to understand your experience so we can work in a way that is helpful to you.
