This weekend, I had the incredible opportunity to attend a comprehensive training session on Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) application in musculoskeletal conditions, led by the esteemed orthopedic surgeon, Mr. Mahmood, in London. It was great to see other msk physiotherapists there too! This training was an eye-opener, blending both theory and hands-on practice in a way that was truly transformative. PRP therapy involves using a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate healing in injured tissues. It’s becoming a game-changer, especially for conditions like knee osteoarthritis and tendon injuries, where surgery might not be the preferred option. On Saturday, we delved deep into the theory behind PRP. We explored its rationale, mechanisms, and evidence supporting its effectiveness. What stood out to me was how versatile PRP is across various musculoskeletal conditions. The session was interactive, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and engage in discussions.
Sunday was all about applying what we learned. We worked in the dissection room, practicing on cadavers, which provided a realistic and invaluable learning experience. Using ultrasound for guided injections was particularly fascinating, allowing us to see the precision and care required in real-life applications. PRP is not just a trend; it’s a scientifically backed method that offers a less invasive alternative to surgery for many patients. From knee osteoarthritis to tendonopathies, PRP helps reduce pain and promote healing. It’s exciting to bring this cutting-edge treatment to our new clinic, Physio Soton, in Eastleigh soon.
