Wow! Thank you to all those who took the time to engage with this page.
It's not an easy one but thought I would start with explaining a bit about my journey into play therapy. My background is in primary teaching and it became clear to me, especially post COVID, that many of our children are struggling, for whatever reason, with their mental health, making learning in the classroom challenging and in some cases impossible. I wanted to be part of the solution and to support them.
There were two established routes into play therapy in the UK, and I chose to train through Play Therapy UK (PTUK) and APAC (The Academy of Play and Child Psychotherapy) as it broke the masters degree down into stages. I applied and started the journey 3 years ago. It has been tough at times, however it turns out I can write essays better than I could for my teaching degree and I inevitably learned more about myself more deeply along the way. I have also had placements in a wonderful school and a women's refuge too.
It is such a privilege to get to know a child in this way and help them to feel safe and build trust. I consider myself very lucky.
