Hold the front door….500 followers on this page???

Well, it’s 511 to be precise, but who’s counting? (Me actually, I love analysing the insights and notifications that comes from this page) 😂.

It’s great to have you all here with me….!!!

Thank you to all 511 of you.

You make me all so happy 😀 I wouldn’t be able to do what I love without you all.

Big, (no scrap that), huge thanks and much appreciation to everyone who follows me, likes, comments and everything else in between.

I know lots of you are recommending me to your friends and even some schools (who would have thought that eh, oh the irony!) but I’m here and I’m not going anywhere.

I’m embracing my self-development and I’ll be honest, a little bit out of my safety zone with the big move next month, but if our plans don’t scare us they’re not big enough right? I am so pleased, excited, terrified, positive, slightly worried, buzzing and confident all rolled into one.

Thank you to everyone who has booked in sessions last week, looking forward to meeting some new coachee’s and parents!

Is school your child’s number one issue?

I hear this so frequently in the coaching room.

Top complaints are-
- they don’t listen to me
- I can’t keep up
- everyone thinks I’m dumb
- I don’t like group work
- I keep getting detentions
- I keep getting into trouble
- I hate the teachers

When we explore these, we find that..

-we are looking at mindset
- we are looking at introducing reasonable adjustments
- we are looking at improving self esteem
- we are looking at regulation techniques
- we are working on our values

If this sounds familiar, then please feel free to get in touch to see how coaching can help you and your child.

Best wishes
Zoe

⚡️MELTDOWNS⚡️

We say this word a lot to describe behaviour, but do you know what’s going on and how to handle them?

It’s usually because a child is overwhelmed and they have gone into fight or flight. Their brain has shut down and they have lost control.

Here are some ways to help your child calm down:

⭐️Give them space
⭐️Remove anything that will cause harm
⭐️Remove any ‘spectators’ if possible
⭐️Do not shout, ridicule, shame or try to reason with them etc
⭐️Walk away and calm yourself
⭐️Return calm and speak calmly to them
⭐️Ask them to breath with you
⭐️Tell them they are safe
⭐️once they are calming down offer a cold drink, a hug, distract with a snack, go for a little walk or anything else that will help calm their central nervous system down.

You are aiming to calm down the central nervous system first.

If you think 1:1 parent coaching can help you, please get in touch for a chat.

Does your child struggle at the moment with big emotions such as anger, anxiety, sadness or just generally withdrawing from life?

Are you are feeling unsure how best to support your child, or you are noticing that’s things just aren’t getting better, or are you on a very long waiting list for some support?

Here at Coaching Young Minds, I support children, teens and parents with emotional wellbeing, mental health, mindset and regulation using evidence based neuroscience in a practical, understanding and non-judgemental way.

I work with families and provide coping skills and strategies for children experiencing issues around their mental health and I tailor sessions to each child. This is not a one way suits all approach. We work together towards their chosen goal and once we have outlined our plan, we have weekly check in’s to monitor progress, confidence, growth and reflection.

My focus is on helping children regulate stressed out central nervous systems, introduce calmness and through achievable steps, while working at the child’s pace to improve mindset, confidence and resilience.

Your child or teen will have access to many creative activities and even cuddles with my pet dog if they want to.

I have 18 years experience in supporting wellbeing and mental health, 3 years of supporting children in an education setting and 2 years of 1:1 mental health child and adolescent mental health coaching. I have numerous certifications in children’s mental health issues from EBSA, Safeguarding, SEND to Brain and Child Development. I am a fully insured and a qualified Reiki Master and Holistic Therapist and hold a full DBS certificate. I am also accredited to the ACCPH.

If you feel your child or family could benefit from some extra support at the moment, please feel free to get in touch for a chat and let’s see what we can do.

There maybe a few wobbles and worry in anticipation of beginning school tomorrow….

If you’re unsure how to help your child with their anxiety or worries, keep reading.

Validation is EVERYTHING.

DONT TELL THEM THEY WILL BE FINE, OR IT WILL BE OK, OR TO STOP WORRYING OR STOP BEING SILLY.

Anxiety lives in the brain and the body, so telling an anxious brain they will be fine actually sends a message if there’s a threat and increases tension in an already tense central nervous system. (Under 25’s generally don’t have the reasoning part of their brain fully formed, so some children won’t be able to reason with these statements).

DO SAY…. IT MAKES TOTAL SENSE TO ME THAT YOUR TUMMY FEELS TIGHT/STRANGE/SICK. Then do something with movement and say LETS TRY AND GET RID OF THAT FEELING IN YOUR BODY.

You can try…
Deep breathing TOGETHER
Have a cold drink
Jump, dance, go outside and throw a snowball!
Distract that mind with something creative or do all of them!

Allow that brain to feel SAFE, because behaviour is a reaction to a feeling and if we can manage the feeling by validation, it will then help the body to relax.

If you think 1:1 mental health coaching can help your child, please get in touch.

Let me know how you get on.
