This Christmas, my heart is with those who are feeling the absence of someone they love. The holidays can make that empty space feel even more profound, as we gather around tables with chairs that now sit vacant and recall traditions that will never quite be the same.
If you're navigating this season while carrying grief, please know that whatever you're feeling is valid. It's okay to feel joy and sadness in the same moment. It's okay to laugh at a memory and cry because you miss them. It's okay to participate in celebrations or to step back when it feels like too much. There's no right way to move through this - only your way.
The love you shared with those you've lost doesn't disappear. It lives on in the memories you hold, the lessons they taught you, and the ways they shaped who you are. They remain woven into the fabric of your life, and though they can't be here physically, their impact endures. Perhaps this season, we can honour them by speaking their names, sharing their stories, and letting their light continue to shine through us.
To anyone facing their first Christmas without someone dear, or their tenth, or any in between - you are not alone in your grief. May you find moments of peace amid the pain, and may you feel surrounded by love, both from those still here and from the cherished memories of those who remain forever in your heart.
